Hey guys.

I found this Ibanez for sale, but I'm having a hard time spotting exactly what it is. It's an MIJ RG with the serial # F0222059 which would imply it is a 2002 model (if it were a 1990 model it would only have 6 digits, yes?). However, it does not have the Prestige headstock decal as all other non-sig MIJ Ibby's from 2002 seem to have? Also seems to be an Edge trem and AANJ.

My best guess was 1990 RG 450 JB, until I realized the serial contradicts that

Any help is much appreciated

i think the 2002 rg´s had the super wizard neck. yours is a wizard. i would say its a 1990 550 model. also no prestige decals on the newer 550 models.

That's not an Edge trem, it's a Lo-TRS, see the shape of the baseplate and the writing on it? As for "Prestige" branding, it didn't become the standard for MIJ RGs until a year or two later, 03'/04'.

I'm thinking an out of market RG450 of some sort.

It's definitely not an RG550, as it lacks (besides the Original or Lo-Pro Edge) but the rear jack cavity, and has a jack plate. Something I've never seen on an RG550, and I've owned one from almost every production year. Also, it can't be a 90' as that would predate the AANJ.

This is an Original Edge:

Any chance this is a mut?

I don't find it in any catalogs,
but like said Max : it's not an RG550 seeing the trem

It's not an RG4xx (IIRC, RG4xx have V8-S1-V7 combo)

So I vote for an RG350 or RG250

Though, no RG3xxs or RG2xxs were made in Japan, so it's likely that the neck is not original.

I thought the AANJ indicated it was like a 2000+ model. When did Ibanez start using the AANJs? The Ibanez wikia says Maxxases had them in 1987 and Universes had them starting in 1990.

also lol at Max's ability to identify ibby trems with a single glance

That trem looks like a TRS101. There definitely were RG450's that had the TRS101 trem made in 2002, most probably Japanese/Asian market only guitar. I think that colour was known as Fire Spark Blue. You won't find that guitar in the USA/EU catalogs so best to have a look at the Japanese catalogs.

Generally, early 90's. I have a 93 or 94 (can't remember) S540 with one, and ones from only a year or so prior still had the square block heel.

I believe and please correct me if I'm wrong that the cutoff for square heel is 92. I have a 93 S540 and she has the aanj.
