It's had a Floyd Rose installed...

We're talking full-on ORIGINAL museum quality example of THE holy grail guitar, the 1959 Les Paul, with beautiful top, still some red burst colouring, excellent condition....

    but someone installed an FR...

Easy a 6 figure price tag if 100% original...

    What would you do?

EDIT: To clarify, I havent been offered one! It's just an amusing thought and wondered what others would do.
I FUCKING WISH I had a '59 come my way. One day.... one day

Unless it belonged to Alex Lifeson obviously it does not have collectors value apart from selling as parts. You could figure out if you can sell say the original pickups for more than you paid for and keep the rest. The only consideration here is "can I make money out of it if I buy this and sell it forward". As instruments you can do a whole lot better if you don't want a vintage LP with a Floyd Rose installed on it.

The vintage market is a load of artificially created nonsense where brand A is coveted vintage with mojo and brand B of the same age is just an old guitar if someone famous did not use it back in the day. I have one guitar that is 40 years old now but has zero collectors value because it is not a desirable brand. Meanwhile some are trying to peddle similarly aged Fenders and Gibsons for a ton more money as if they are somehow special.

It would probably evaluate at somewhere substantially north of what I would be willing to pay for anything other than a house, but that would be the sole concern. If money were no object, I'd probably have as much fun watching purists knot their panties at the sight of it as I would playing it.

It was this that made me want to ask the question  Been having some big lust for a '59 lately (as most mortals do) and had the thought.

I would talk to some vintage gear aficionado’s who deal in high end stuff to try and figure out it’s value. Than take it from there. I have a feeling that a conversation might be the way to go, though you would want to use the best of the best to do it.

There was already a story about this over there. Some guy sold his original 50s LP to a guy he knew. IIRC the guy offered to sell it back to him down the road but he had made all sorts of awful mods including cutting out a chunk of the body for the Floyd route.

I mean a LP with a Floyd is pretty damn cool. But not a 59’ model, talk about a stupid choice. Things worth a mere fraction of what it’s value was.

Offered? Like for free? I would sell it, make a pretty profit and maybe buy something I would enjoy and/or need and invest the rest. Sounds like a dream come true.

Yeah... for free? I would get it and play it until it's done...a les paul with floyd is great, even if it is considered an abomination and you did not route it for the floyd so...

If I have to buy it? No way

It's not like this hasn't been done. It'd still be worth "house money" just not "house in a rich area money".

Even if you just parted it out you'd have a pile of cash. Folks sell the guts of these for thousands.

I’d throw in some Duncan invaders and put it up for sale on Reverb at 60% above what its worth and claim its upgraded with $267 shipping.

Depends on the price, if it's still ad much as a 59 les Paul, nope. If it's like 2000 or less I'd be all on it.

If it's priced right I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Love Les Paula, love Floyd's, don't generally love the kind of people who are all up in arms about something not being original anymore.

I’m more of a Strat guy so if I put it in terms of a ‘54 Strat, eh....suppose it depends how much it was being offered to me for. I love Floyd’s and i love Strats, just not 50’s Strats with Floyds.

After all, a vintage guitar with a Floyd is better than no vintage guitar at all!
