...by linking to our respective stuff that can get us monetary compensation for followers and views.

My band is really new and the only recordings I have of us are pretty raw. The drummer and I have only been jamming for around a year. The other guitar player for 8 months or so, and the bass player for about half of that. Some of these songs I've written over 12 years. Others are brand new.

If we all treat this like a community and follow each other we'll help each others' projects reach enough critical mass to maybe make a little money, peanuts as they are for streaming.

There was another thread about scratching each others back. But, I will definitely sub and catch up with your shares as soon as I can. I'm a teacher and it has been a crazy week for us in these interesting CoViD-19 times.

I have learned that almost nobody is interested in personal music work. It is even difficult if you're a new band. So, I opted to demo whatever gear I have using my personal compositions.

    Here's my latest work:

    Thanks for starting this thread.

It certainly does. Either people don't want to present their work. Or they don't want to put in the work of actually networking with other artists in the community. Either says a lot about how serious the community is about its art. I'll follow everyone who links something on here regardless of whether its something I enjoy. If you aren't working to build the community, you're not going to have a support system for your art.

The fact that there is 566 views in here and only a few posts... We're either a community of cork sniffers, lazy people, or people sans the balls to share their work.

I guess I posted in the wrong thread, then! I'm not looking for economic compensation, though (and recently started, so there's not a lot going on yet).

Dude I spend every last dime I have on COOL GUITARS, all of my songs are in tuxguitar and I don't even have an amp right now. Also I can't play what I write. Also I can't write worth shit.

Let's be honest..most people in gear forums just buy cool shit. A good number of them can't even play, some of them don't do anything but play covers and noodle around, and very few are in actual bands and making music.

Nothing wrong with any of that (in theory), but every single time I see a post about someone actually making something it's mainly overlooked. Meanwhile they'll pour in by the hundreds to discuss how the color of some popular modern guitarist's underwear effects his tone.

Gear groups are mainly for people who like talking about it more than actually doing stuff with it. That's why you get so many people recommending things they've never played, hyping shit they can't afford, etc.

    Anyways...

My band recently did our first video. I didn't want to fake stuff so all the torture scenes and whatnot are real. I'm surprised I got everyone to go along with it but I'm really proud of them for doing it. I ended up hating the way the video turned out but ah, well...ya live and ya learn. I guess at the end of the day it's not for me, it's for other people so whatever.

Totally true, and when you've been around this scene long enough, you see the guys with a $200 Schecter writing all sorts of cool riffs, while guys with $5k setups just take pictures of it and talk about the gear.

I have noticed that too. I have way more than that into my rig, but I do put a ton of energy into writing, and playing shows with my band. So not all gearheads are being unproductive.

I've enjoyed the shit out of a bunch of artists I've discovered here.

I'm not here often enough to even open up half of the threads about new music.

That's why I think this thread is a great idea.

But also, everyone is different. Some people don't come here to check out new music. Some people don't feel comfortable posting their work. Others feel comfortable showing people their work, but are turned off by how people here might tend to react.

I say keep posting here and even if only a few people stay tuned, it's still a positive difference.
