Where do you all get your strings?

I usually buy regular D'Addario sets from any music store that has them.

I go 0.09-0.42/0.10-0.46 on 6's, 0.10-0.46 with an extra 0.62 (bought individually) on 7's.

Never really got into Ernie Ball, I think I got trauma from breaking many a high E strings, and somehow they feel "dead" after a 3 or 4 days of playing.

Great guy, great products and so I try to support ventures like his instead of just buying Ernie ball or whatever

i try and be as badd ass and possible, feels good to me, progressively more tension lower down you go - but not too much

I've noticed that Stringjoys sound dark to me. Not dull, they're still crisp when you palm-mute chug, but they're noticeably darker than other strings. I was recording a song, restrung my Legator, and it's a very different tone. Not bad, per se, but different. I'll probably stop using them. They are, however super smooth to the touch and have much less string noise. I suppose I could try to EQ back in some treble, but eh. I'll probably not do that, but I also don't know where else to get the gauges I need for my 8-string. I'll have to try some of the companies in this thread.

I wonder if this is why Stringjoys are said to last longer? Because they're already fairly dark from the outset >_>

Apparently I can't delete this... but I came home after buying some NYXL 9-80 (only 8-string set locally) they sound fine I... I don't know anymore...

I used to use curt mangan strings but switched to stringjoy a while back. I just couldn't get much mileage out of the mangan strings before they sounded dead.

Haven't tried Kalum in several months, but I'm a fan. Got a little salty when wait times shot up into the 3-4 month range, but imo they had three major advantages going for them, so I hope to eventually give 'em another go.

* Ridiculous range of gauges
* Reasonably bright tone (at least to my ears)
* Slightly denser than most other brands, which means you can usually shave a few gauge points and get the same tension

Their tension charts attested to that latter observation when they were still up on their site - not sure how scientifically the numbers were derived, so may just be me buying into hype, but it tracks with my experience of them.

Lately I just do NYXLs from JustStrings.com. Probably the best tone I've ever gotten from strings, and with surprising longevity (at least for me). Sometimes I just wish they'd at least offer an .082 or .084 for a decent E1.

Same here. I haven't ordered from them in a while because:

• The wait times
• The sort order on their site is hosed. Items should sort by gauge, by "style". Currently the seem to sort alphabetically, but there's always exceptions

I've stuck with StringJoy due to:

• Their string tension calculator
  • This especially makes it easy to re-order customer string sets
• Strings are sent like custom packs, not a several bundle of strings grouped by gauge/winding.
