There's plenty of good guitar sitar sounds out there. Metallica wherever I may roam always one of my favorites.

I was just listening to Helloween Rabbit Don't Come Easy, and the song "Never Be A Star" has this great sitar effect intro.

I was wondering if this is like some combo of auto-wah and ring mod effect, or is it entirely a synthesizer effect?

    Same question on Roam too.

Roam is definitely a Choral Sitar used.

Just listened to the Helloween intro and that's definitely an Choral electric sitar being played.

Any known ways to simulate that using the normal plethora of guitar effects? It sounds like it's primiarly sympathetic vibrations from higher pitched strings, and some other overtones. Maybe some kind of pitch-shifting fast delay effect.

I don't know about a combination of effects but EHX makes an actual sitar pedal.

To me, that just sounds like a very synth-y octave pedal effect, with one octave up.

Can a Variax do a sitar sound?

edit: Seems like it ("sitar" at 2:30), i think think it works a little better than the EHX, since it looses the "synthiness" of the EHX.
