Saw death to all/suffocation/nukem tonight…it was awesome. Especially death, being too young to have ever seen them live with Chuck it was almost surreal hearing some of my favorite songs of all time live
I've seen Amon Amarth live 5 times and they've been great each time.I got my daughter tickets to Amon Amarth and Ghost for her birthday in September. I can't fucking wait to see Amon Amarth, and Ghost is one of those bands I hope was like when I saw Volbeat, when I always thought they were meh, but seeing them live turned me into a fan.
I agree about the 'surreal' feeling of seeing Death DTA. I was worried it would be like watching a tribute band, but that really wasn't the case.Saw death to all/suffocation/nukem tonight…it was awesome. i don't think they did YYZ at my show unless I completely forgot, but yeah interesting how Max altered his voice slightly depending on the song to fit the album's vocal style...I did find it kinda strange how he didn't speak at all though, Steve was the quasi-frontman in that regards but he was great.I caught this show last night, and it was killer. All the bands were excellent, but especially Death to All. I recognized Nukem’s guitarist as formerly of the band Warface (if anyone remembers those video clips of the drummer Scott Ellis).
Suffocation was tighter than I’ve ever heard them and their current singer is great, but I still miss Frank. Kudos to the hyperchop homages though.
DtA were super tight, and Max really channels the sound of Chuck through his playing and his voice. First time seeing Gene live and he makes everything look effortless. Bobby Koelble is also criminally underrated as far as guitarists go. Not much needs to be said about Steve DiGiorgio that hasn’t already been said, but his stage banter made him seem like a really genuine and lovely dude.
They also made a really good case for using digital amps as they were the only band using Kempers and the only band that didn’t sound muddy and weird that night. Unexpected cover of YYZ was a fun highlight.
I'm 6'2" and he's at least taller enough than me to look up to. Gene's a big dude all the way around. About the most relaxed guy you'd ever care to talk to as well. Just chill to the max. Then he hits a kit and somehow destroys it while still looking like he's just kicking back reading a favorite book. He's a phenomenon.i don't think they did YYZ at my show unless I completely forgot, but yeah interesting how Max altered his voice slightly depending on the song to fit the album's vocal style...I did find it kinda strange how he didn't speak at all though, Steve was the quasi-frontman in that regards but he was great.
Also my first time ever seeing Gene live, and I know he's a decently tall guy (I'd guess like 6'2 based on the pictures with the rest of the band and with Steve being taller and he's 6'3) but he must be all torso because I swear it looked like he was standing up with how tall he sits on the kit haha.

Ghost puts on a slick live show, but either you appreciate the music or you don't.
I mean...I listened to their first album and liked it enough to buy it, if I remember right, it was a good mix of Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, and Scooby Doo. But for the most part, i'd kinda forgotten about them other than the Mary on a Cross song that's all over TikTok. I'm hoping it'll be like when I saw Volbeat as an opener, I'd heard some songs and they were aight....but seeing them live made me a fan.
But I mean I do my best to live under a rock, Twilight of the Thunder God is still new Amon Amarth to me.
Saw Sungazer on Friday night in London. They just get better every time I see them. Got to shake Adam Neely's hand.
Sunday night saw Haken with BTBAM and Cryptodira.
Cryptodira were incredible. Just such fun music and great energy. Definitely worth checking out. Very hard to describe.
BTBAM sucked. Like wow. Such a bad band, I'll just never understand the appeal of their music. Dustie wasn't on this tour for some reason. I couldn't tell when one song ended and the next started.
Haken. Oh my goodness. They were incredible. Great set and mix of albums. Just unbelievable. So tight and just a bunch of monster musicians. Charlie saw my Tiktaalika shirt and gave me his pick at the end of the show.
I'd pay $25 just for Thank You Scientist. I can't remember what price this was but it was around £26, originally just for Haken last year, and BTBAM got added as "co-headliner" after it was rescheduled.Yeah, Cryptodira is pretty rad, as is the band Crypta (female black/death metal), I forget who they toured with recently that I wanted to catch but I couldn't make it. Thank You Scientist is playing with BTBAM and Rivers of Nihil and thankfully it's only $25 as I also don't get the massive hype.
And now I have a ticket for Snarky Puppy this year too.I have tickets to see Plini, Haken (with Arch Echo), Alestorm, and Polyphia this year!
