Saw Napalm Death on Saturday with DropDead, Siberian Meat Grinder and Escuela Grind, great gig. Weird seeing Barney in a chair though instead of thrashing around on stage as normal

A little late but I saw Journey and Toto about two weeks ago or so. Quite literally the best show I’ve been to, considering Neal and Steve are two of my biggest influences. It’s also the only concert I think I’ve been to where I knew all of the songs as well.

Gregg Rollie came out during the encore and did some songs from when he was with Journey, along with a killer rendition of Black Magic Woman where Neal and Steve traded solos at the end.

Caught the Manchester leg of this tour last Wednesday and had a blast, even with no Shane and seated-Barney.

Also saw the Archspire/Psycroptic/Benighted/Etheos show on Friday. Crowd was super-intense throughout, which was ace - though I thought Archspire sounded vaguely odd, bit of a quiet mix maybe? I was mostly there for Psycroptic though and they smashed it. Jason on vocals. Top stuff.

Just saw the Rise Of The Machine tour last Saturday with Mushroom head, Dope, Fear Factory, and Static-X. That was a great show. Never been into Mushroom head but their set was good. FF with the new singer sounded pretty solid, band sounded great. Static-X sounded spot on. Hadn’t seen them since they were on tour for Machine and Wayne was still alive. They crushed it and Edsel gets pretty damn close to sounding like Wayne. Going to see Sumo Cyco and Nonpoint a week from Saturday.

Gonna see Death to All next Friday in NYC, then I'm unsure if I want to see Emperor and Morbid Angel next month (they aren't together), as 1) with Emperor I like them but they aren't a fave, it would be more a "legendary status>how much I like the music" thing, and 2) with Morbid Angel, even though it's a quasi-40th anniversary tour, they are barely playing any Vincent era songs...rent is high in NYC so I gotta pick and choose how I spend my money haha

Saw In Flames and Megadeth last night.

In Flames:
Was a huge fan back when Jester Race was released, and then Whoracle just tops it. Never really resonate with their later albums so literally fell off my radar the last 20 years. But have to admit they're newer stuffs sounds good live.

Megadeth:
Band's on fire. Have to say the best i've heard from them live. Was a bittersweet moment though, as seeing Dave almost stumbled on stage reminded me that this might be the last time they'll tour out here. Hope I'm wrong.

I’ve got tickets to Rodrigo y Gabriela coming up. I saw them years ago, so I’m excited to see them again. The last time was in a super small venue, so this one isn’t as intimate, but it should be a good show anyway.

They are playing in Germany this year, but both concerts are too far away from where I live.

Last I saw Archspire, Psycroptic, Benigthed and Entheos on their european tour.
Entheos were fine.
Benighted much more fun than expected, I don't listen to brutal death metal usually.
Psycroptic totally delivered, my highlight that evening.
Archspire were kinda disappointing to me. Weird, tad bit unlikable vibe from Oli, the songs didn't translate too well to the live sound.

Saw a couple shows on a short holiday there this week.

First was Cult of Luna, Russian Circles, and Svalbard. I thought Svalbard were a pretty good opener, seemed an unusual choice for this particular bill but they had some cool tracks. Russian Circles were excellent, 3rd time seeing them live and it was by far their best performance. The new tracks really shine live. It was my first time seeing Cult of Luna live and I was absolutely blown away, the second drum kit set up was great, really added some depth to the overall sound.

2nd night was Beartooth, Motionless in White, and Stray From The Path. These bands weren't what I'd usually go for but still really enjoyed it. Stray are a band that I just can't seem to get into. I follow the drummer Craig for his podcast but that's about the extent of what I know about them. Vocalist had great energy but it didn't really seem to be matched by the guitarist and bassist. I'd say they'd better in more intimate club shows. Motionless in White stole the show for me. All the musicianship was excellent and the singer absolutely nailed a lot of difficult high notes. They had the best crowd reaction on the night. Beartooth were great as well, I couldn't believe the energy Caleb had for the whole night. Great musicianship again but the mix was notably weaker compared to the the 2nd band.

Got some presale Spotify led tickets to the upcoming BTBAM show in June (I think). It’s parallax in full, sounds awesome to me. I think that’s where a lot of people feel they started sounding samesies, but I felt it more after coma ecliptic. That’s when it started feeling a bit more formulaic, but I still enjoy all their stuff. Coma was definitely a different album, lower gain and not so aggressive but they said in interviews they were all listening to classic rock a lot and I feel it really showed.

Have tickets for Cold on May 25th. They're supposed to be playing Year of the Spider in its entirety. Pretty stoked about it. One of my favorites that I never had the chance to see.

Saw death to all/suffocation/nukem tonight…it was awesome. Especially death, being too young to have ever seen them live with Chuck it was almost surreal hearing some of my favorite songs of all time live
