Has anyone heard of Wangs amps? It's an amp company from China and they are built by their small family-run company of about 15 employees. All the amps are made by hand with a lot of care basically but the price tags are attractive!

So I got my HD-15 amp a while ago and I've been enjoying the amp quite a bit. The clean/crunch channel is supposedly based on a Bogner Shive type sound and the drive channel on a Soldano. So the clean channel is nice and bright and with the crunch switch you can push it up to british rock gain levels, quite cool! The drive channel has a very fat distortion character, quite unique! This is also my only amp currently that has 6V6 power tubes. I love my EL84 amps but these 6V6 tubes seem to work well with low-wattage amps also.

Eventhough this is the most high-gain amp from Wangs, it's not a super tight and aggressive amp by default. With a boost it sure gets a lot tighter. In a way this amp kinda reminds me of an 'American' sounding Orange. So like a blend between a Mesa and an Orange in a way. Great for rock and doom stuff. That's what makes the amp sound so cool and unique though. I can't wait to try my mud-killer pedal through it to be honest! Should be great!

The Wangs 2204 amps also look really cool, it's basically a 50w JCM800 clone. I really want to have one of those as I've come to really love my Marshall SC20H Studio JCM800. Has anyone ever tried one of these amps? Just curious about your thoughts...

Of course I made a little demo/review of the HD-15. Just to talk about the features a bit and demonstrate some sounds:

I'd love to know your thoughts! And since it's such a boutique company it would be cool to hear if anyone else here has any experience with these amps...

I've been eyeing these for a few years. Always been curious about them. I'd also be lying if I didn't find it intriguing to have an amp with WANGS on the front of it :DThe prices are definitely attractive!

Given they spam the hell out of any guitar group on Facebook that hasn't banned them I would imagine most have heard of them and are annoyed as hell by them :2c:

Hmm I haven't heard anything about that until today. Too bad that some people had some bad experiences. I've only had good experiences so I can only speak for myself. I love the amp and my contact has been a very nice dude! Don't know what else to say really...

Finally got home to be able to listen/watch. That sounds really good! And as has been said, great playing.

As a proud owner of a Madison chinese Marshall clone fire hazard that's waiting to die for the last time and take me with it I can say I'm probably going to steer clear of Wangs (singular non-possessive, genius marketing) amps.

It does sound good, though. Just not good enough for me to buy a ticket. Maybe in my next life.

Loved the sound in the mix, some skilled production there. Less so isolated, but - SLO alternative? Is it a SLO clone? It didn't quite strike me as SLO tone. And does the SLO preamp cascade? I thought the normal and overdrive knobs were for two separate channels, but here I saw you adjusting the two knobs together.

I'm not an amp tech so I don't know much about the inner workings of amps. I was told that this amp is based on a Bogner modded SLO. Either way, regardless of how close it sounds to an actual SLO, I really like it! Someone who has both told me the Wangs is slightly looser sounding.

I have many amps that were made in Asia and they're all pretty reliable. Many brands make their amps overseas nowadays. That doesn't automatically mean that they'll break sooner.

You're right, not automatically. Just saying that personally without any kind of pedigree in the market, in fact a bad one in respect to imitation quality depending on who you ask, it's not compelling for me. It's cool to check out and listen to still, like I said it does even sound pretty good.

My Madison sounds like a Marshall that wants to kill itself. It's my favorite metal tone. The one bad thing being that it really is a Marshall that wants to kill itself. I'm trying to avoid living the fool me twice adage I guess.
