So, in what is the latest installment of this riveting saga, it was apparently not possible to use a) the company Paypal account b) his own Paypal account and now we're down to c) wiring the money to my account. Considering the guitar was sold to his customer in late August, I am of course perfectly ok with a mere 3 months of back and forth to get the money that is rightfully mine to me.

Stay tuned for episode 5, tentatively titled "I can't wire the money, but I'll send it via migratory bird".

Even if geography wasn't a thing, I doubt risking jailtime even if I was to completely toss aside my feelings regarding the whole "take justice into one's own hands" take on such matters would be a wise course of action.

This raises even more questions. They are basically all new by Vik standards as they are all completed in 2022 and now they are all for sale? One of those models was posted on Viks instagram on May so who had it for only a couple of months? My guess is that the original first owners is Vik himself who couldnt sell these any othet way. That or its that vechhio guy who owns probably 30 Viks at this point…
Not to gravedig on an old post, but I was just going through this thread and saw you mention vechhio. I had a run-in on Reverb over another guitar that vechhio was selling within the last year. Had no idea who he was at the time. Sent me a few pictures with a bunch of guitars, but one image with roughly ~20 Viks in frame. Curious if any of them should rightfully belong to members of this thread…
I do still have the image if it’s not already public.

Frankly, I had played a few Viks over the years and they were good, but not nearly good enough to warrant the delusional behavior of the builder. I do own one as of recent (purchased secondhand). I more than likely will sell it to fund something more inspiring.

A friend of mine is currently waiting on a build that has definitely been started as pictures were posted on Vik’s Patreon of it. Curious if he does actually get it or not.

Could have sold and donated that guitar's cost to a cause antithetical to Vik's personal beliefs if they were that bothered.

Seems like they burned it for the social pageantry of it. Seems wasteful to me.

And that would have been an uninteresting footnote and we wouldn't be talking about it. And then there's the problem of there not being anything antithetical to stealing thousands of your dollars. Donate it to the BBB?

And it would eventually find its way back to the used market, listed by somebody at 4000$ (which I'm sure this guy didn't want to happen).

Who cares lol, he could have sold it and donated $4k to a children's hospital or even a gay rights org. I think he did it just to be toxic tbh, it won't change anything in reality and it's not an impressive statement all things considered.

I think it makes a statement that's hard to misinterpret or downplay, that just selling it on doesn't. Vik fucked this guy over, hard. So to be toxic? Getting scammed out of many thousands of dollars is a pretty toxic situation. If he wants to piss off Vik destroying many of his nicest guitars, more power to him.

You want to donate $4k of your own money to a children's hospital? Go for it. I'm sure we could all find things in your annual purchase list that we would think are better spent there.

Unrelated, I was recently asked by another person about Vik, who gave Vik a deposit and then found this thread. There's still people buying these guitars because it looks like all the bad news is from 2013. I hope he gets the guitar, but I know of guys who ordered ~4-5 years ago and were also scammed.

Wait ... is he tracking down the guitars, buying them, and finally destroying them?

He also posted a picture of multiple former-headstocks.

Nah, but he owned so many it's really a significant dent in the quality Viks out there in the world.

It's not going to change anything that already happened, seems childish to destroy things because of a tantrum. The healthiest thing to do is try to make whatever good come of the situation that you can. That's with anything in my opinion. Even just getting the fuck over it helps a lot. It might be in everyone's nature to become really scorned by sour events, but should it be? Would it really be so terrible if someone actually enjoyed a guitar in spite of the builder being a bastard? How many folks here have walked over broken glass for whatever flash in the pan private luthier's work, gotten jerked around a million different ways getting one, but still enjoy the heck out of the instrument in the end?

As far as what I buy with the money I earn, I'm sure you can find me not setting it on fire. At least not on purpose lol.

I used to joke about sanding off the Vik logo on the headstock thinking that was an extreme thing to do and here we are 7 years later seeing a Vik on a fire.

I'm surprised how quickly it caught fire.

The last one he smashed into pieces got glued back together and was up for sale on FB again as a Vik. Dude ain't taking any chances this time lol

This has the same energy as authorities burning all of Gibson's illegal wood a while back. You could argue that the wood has already been sourced so may as well make a guitar with it so that the deforestation goes somewhere meaningful.

You could also argue that burning it sends a message of "Don't do this shit again".

The very existence of these guitars pisses me off. The fact that this dude can just do what he did (and continues to do) and so long as he does actually finish a few a year he gets to continue doing it in perpetuity is nauseating.
