Disaserpeace is so good. I love his original chiptune stuff. Also Hyper Light Drifter is really good. https://music.disasterpeace.com/album/hyper-light-drifter
Here's a few that i pop on frome time to time
haven't listened to them in a while though.
Late era NES games are often overlooked. This one was one of my favorites:
I never played this game but this is a sick cover:
@wankerness haha I'm with you, the PS1 controls were a nightmare. I tried out that one years later and quit almost immediately. The interesting thing about Descent II was that it had midi tracks for all the levels, but it also had 10 or so mp3s on the installation CD that would play instead if you ran the game with the CD in the drive. And those were hella industrial:
Incidentally, does anyone remember the American Mcgee's Alice OST? The sequel was pretty bad, but that first one had a great creepy soundtrack I think from the keyboard player of Nine Inch Nails
Got goosebumps from that lead.
catchiest villain theme? I still find myself humming the intro some 30 years later. lol
For about 5 years, I used the first 25 seconds of "Dark Messenger" as my intro/interlude with Morphesia for live shows, only one person ever pointed it out after a show.
Kuja's other themes are fantastic pieces as well.
I just found out that Distant Worlds has SIX albums now. That's a lot of Final Fantasy.
Black Mages are so good, and it's more than a cover; it's Uematsu's band!
I think this guy does a great job
And he's got more
Metroid (Super/Prime) OST
All the Zelda OST's
WarCraft 2 + 3 OST
StarCraft 1 OST
Hollow Knight OST
I'm sorry.. too lazy to go dig through YouTube for links right now. Highly recommend those soundtracks though!
I've always love the Guilty Gear and BlazBlue games use of guitar driven music and Metal Gear will always have a place in my heart with its use of music. But Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War is the only video game OST I leave synced to my phone.
Well I would like to share the soundtrack to Outer Wilds, I think it's a big part of the experience!
Castle in the Darkness is a fun indie Metroidvania that seems like it never got a whole lot of attention. I'd like to record a version of these with real instruments:
Just came across this the other day. Apparently it's released on PC and console, including getting a Sega Genesis/Megadrive official cart. This tune is catchy as hell, think im going to give it the metal treatment in just a bit
Just wrapped up this cover ^^^^ for Lab from Xeno Crisis
Get your headphones on for this one:
First level music from Streets of Rage 2. Pure FM synthesis from Yuzo Koshiro, pushed to its absolute limit. You know it's good when he's directly credited with the music on the title screen. There was a live concert some years ago where he played a lot of these old tunes.
Marty O'Donnell is the man.
