    Hey guys,

Been off the SS forums for ages and now I'm back ...with a question!

Can peeps recommend a UK luthier? I want a custom tele built and would like to get a bunch of quotes before hitting go!

Ideally would have used the luthier being suggested...and maybe see some guitar pron :playboy:

Also, from a legal aspect, once you have paid your deposit/money up front etc... what happens if the luthier goes belly up? And once I receive my guitar and it turns out to be a pile of crap (from a build quality perspective) where does that also leave me? Bearing in mind it wouldn't technically be faulty or not fit for purpose etc...

    Thanks.

For a Tele build check out Wirebird Guitars.
The guys in The Safety Fire use(d) them.

Ben Crowe at Crimson Guitars - I've not used him personally, but there's an absolute crapton of material out there about his work, including his own blog, which is very detailed.

He's been in business many years now and has been Robert Fripp's guitar builder of choice since the very early days (He mentions a lot how thankful he is that Fripp gave him a chance so early).

I would recommend Waghorn guitars without any doubts. I LOVE my Corax. Just an incredible guitar. The ordering process was great too.

Thanks guys. Crimson and Waghorn guitars are on my list. The Waghorns look the absolute nuts. Kinda making me rethink the tele idea after seeing some of their double cut builds!

Thanks. I think Daemoness have called it a day but Carillion guitars look pretty sweet.

That's a nice guitar! I used to hate strats and teles but as I've gotten older they have got more and more appealing :D

I owned a 2nd hand Gordon Smith double cut years ago but sold it because it wasn't pointy enough ...such a good guitar it was too! :wallbash:

What makes you think Daemoness has called it a day? They have a thread in the dealers section that is still active and full of happy owners/future owners. I do know they have stopped taking new orders as of last month but I think that was so they didn't build up too big of backlog of orders.

Dylan of Daemoness closed the "order book" early August if memory's good. He's not done but don't take orders ATM.

I'm probably the only person this applies to...

But my Steve Mercer build went absolutely flawlessly bar some short drops in communication which weren't even that bad. My guitar went from idea to reality in 7 months even after I created a month delay by choosing to purchase my own wood for the top to get the "Perfect piece"!

Already mentioned on here but I too can't recommend Waghorn enough.

My guitar will be ready in several weeks and is looking to be an amazing instrument. The contact has been exceptional and Tom is clearly a very passionate luthier.

The prices of his guitars also blow my mind, incredible value.

Thanks for the input guys! Certainly gave me plenty to think about. I decided I'm gonna go with a local builder. Works under the banner of Eternal Guitars. Mainly deals with relic'ed Fender/Gibson-esque designs but he did an awesome job on a setup and fret dress on my Hagstrom Deuce and I played one of his LP Junior builds and it felt and played just like my almost 20 year old SG so figured he was the one to build my tele. Just need to send some final specs off to him to get the final price but pretty much after a set neck tele, twin humbuckers with coil split, ebony board with block inlays, mahogany neck and body, reverse headstock. Here is a quick mock-up of what I'm going for.
