Hey, it's been a while since I was here. I got an eight string on kijiji a year or so ago and my Korg GA tuner has never been about to get the F# and I've had to use an old Line 6 spider's built in tuner.

What does everyone else use/recommend for tuning an eight string?

Look for a used Peterson strobe style tuner. Any model will do.

You can find older Stomp and Flip models for between $50 and $75 all day.

It might seem pricey if you're moving from cheapo or built-in tuners, but the accuracy and tracking are worth it.

If you have more to spend, the $130 Sonic Research Turbo Tuner is just about the best tuner you can buy that's now an absurdly overkill bench tuner.

Fret a note like we did in the '90s...

    D + 2 = E
    B + 5 = E
    A + 7 = E , etc

    Lazy azz millenials omg

Whatever the current gen D'Addario pedal tuner is works great. Grabs the low notes super quick, and has a terrific display.

Anyt of the strobe tuners by Peterson (they have different models to choose from)
I’ve used both; the Peterson’s tend to be more expensive, (as said above) they’re incredibly precise an accurate. Because I don’t have a need for a stage tuner, I have the Peterson Strobe Tuner app on my phone and it’s perfect.

Ya I'm trying to stay away from options that too pricey. I have occasionally fretted the 5 on the F# to get B on my Korg tuner, but am looking for something that does allow me to be a little lazier.

The Peterson app looks like it could be a good option.

I have a Snark clip on tuner that has been working great for 7 and 8 string. They aren't super expensive and seem pretty accurate.
