Hey folks of this place, Any of you interested in True crime? Anyone following the Idaho University murder investigation?

In case you don't know, here is the wiki link.

I've been watching pretty closely, and while the current alleged murder seems to be acting unnatural, the media is pretty much painting him as guilty already and not even calling him the "alleged murderer" anymore, at least most media I've seen, not all.

Some have even gone as far as to call him an incel.

discuss.

Yeah, they seem to be presenting Khoberg as guilty, even though we haven’t been presented any evidence yet due to the gag order.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he is based on what little we know, but we don’t have any evidence to go on at this point.

You can read the affidavit that was released today, quite a bit of information in there.
I've been at work all day, didn't know it had been made public, the way the news was being reported that it wouldn't be unsealed for a few weeks.

I'll check it out.

I think I've watched all the good true crime docs/movies/podcasts. I feel bad for wanting more, but... it's a long commute....

It's pretty crazy that one of the room mates opened the door and saw the killer well enough to identify he had big eyebrows.

I could probably start a whole new thread just on true crime podcasts.

I'm just glad that some cops were finally doing their jobs. Not like the Gabby Petito case, where they just ended up fist bumping talking about how crazy girls are.

Anyway, I wasn't following it at all, but once they arrested the guy, I started catching myself up damn fast. The fact that he was a criminology PhD student has Netflix movie written all over it. You just KNOW people are salivating to get their script green lit.

It's always interesting to see what cases take on something of a life of their own and ones that never even cause a blip in the daily news cycle.

I’m surprised this one stayed in the news cYale, though, with no info coming out until yesterday.

But now that they’ve released seem info, Koebergh’s DNA is on a knife sheath in one of the victim’s rooms, a surviving roommate saw someone that looked like Khoberg in the house, etc., so he is looking more guilty now than he did before this info came out.

I hope they eventually get the right guy, whether it's this guy or not (I have no idea at the moment).

I won't predict his guilt or not at this point. Of course, in cases like this, by this point, police and prosecutors are right maybe 80% of the time, which are good betting odds if you aren't betting your life or your career. The media putting pressure on investigators can be a double-edged sword. The investigators will work harder to find the right guy, but they also get more hasty when it comes to making an arrest, even if there isn't enough good evidence. And once they make an arrest, the tend to keep doubling down.

It's pretty crazy that she remembered that detail, but then didn't call the police for 8 hours. I'm sure there is an explanation for that.

The thing that gets me about this guy, are a few details.

He has remained completely silent during any and all open air moments. I know it's smart to stay quiet, I get that but people who have committed heinous crimes often are not able to keep quiet if ya catch my drift.

He is a student studying for his PHD in Criminology, but he is going with a public defender? and at least from the hearing it seemed she was nervous, I understand this is a high profile case and that she did not have a lot of time to prepare. I also understand he may not be able to afford a lawyer, but you would thing one of those bloodthirsty types would step up and offer to represent him.

There is something about him that is just off, he reminds me of Ted Bundy in a way but without any charisma.

I'm interested to see what kind of zoo this will turn into.

Does anyone else feel both intense disgust and powerful curiosity about cases like this? Like, you would never in a million years wish this kind of thing to happen, and hearing about it makes you sick, but part of you has to find out everything there is to know about it, every detail?

I personally have only so much stamina for this stuff, but sometimes I feel like I have to make some kind of sense of it, to put it in some kind of perspective, or else it will eat at me forever.

Yep. Same. But ultimately I think I’m seeking justice for the victims. I noticed years ago that u really enjoy true crime when the bad guy is caught and convicted. But I HATE true crime where they don’t know who did it, or the guy got away with it. That’s why I was so invested in the Petito case, too.

That’s in stark contrast to the 6 year old with a gun. I just find that depressing, and less curious, more angry.
