Kiesel built a sort of "development mule" for Amos Williams to figure out what would eventually be his AW5 signature model (now discontinued, as he jumped over to Ibanez).

If I wasn't stuck on my phone I'd post some stuff from the Bill Lawrence/Norlin era of Gibson.

While the Les Paul Signature (the above semihollow) doesn't have the weirdest looking pickups, IIRC they're actually passive low-Z pickups that can be plugged directly into a mixer, which is what Les Paul himself loved to do. Same with the Les Paul Personal/Professional/Recording above.

I find interesting how the V's neck pickup ring cuts the last fret...

I know it's dumb and I know he's dumb but sans pickup rings I really, really dig this configuration.

Wahhhht? I never noticed the disappearing neck pick up on here. How’s that work?

Yeah, he was even going to switch his signature to the Multiscale Vader bass that was debuting at NAMM earlier this year, and then Amos started putting out videos where he was playing the Ibanez, without any heads up, apparently.

There's a Rig Run Down from Guitar Player magazine with him, where he talks about the guitar, a very interesting one.

Man, every time I see one of these I'm immediately reminded of an Ibanez lawsuit version at a steal price that I missed out on because the previous owner "Dean-ed" the headstock and chopped a triangular chunk out of it. Even worse is that these are bolt on and the store just conveniently was selling a replacement Ibanez lawsuit LP neck. :wallbash:

    I should've bought them both. :(

Jeeeez, biiiig oof. I imagine the Ibanez version is just as rare as the Gibson one.

Yeah the lawsuits are becoming much harder to come by. I managed to snag a Les Paul lawsuit and it smokes. Never letting that one go.

Had the previous owner of the Ibby LP recording not mangled the headstock I'll be holding the guitar right now. But at the time it didn't occur to me to grab that spare neck and use it as a replacement. Lesson learned.

I missed out on a 3 pickup SG and a Flying V both at stupid steal prices when I had bolt on snobbery as well. Now I'm just keeping my eyes peeled and make sure I won't make that mistake again.

There's something weird IIRC with the pickups being under the fretboard.

Like a piezo or something. I can’t remember either, I’ll figure it out and post back.

Thanks, you reminded me of something.

Okay, it's a bass with what looks like two humbucking Mudbuckers.

    But it's not.

    It's a Wal bass.

And each polepiece has it's own coil.

Yes, each pickup has eight coils.

It's a humbucker that has splash damage.
