All of us here like/love all kinds of music. We also each have our own style and way we sound. If we are being brutally honest with ourselves There are probably a lot of bands we would love to step in and play guitar for because we love the band. This thread is for the right gig for how we feel we play and sound. As much as I love Necrophagist, I am not that guy.

So what is the right gig for you, your sound, style, technique, etc? What would be a natural fit for you? List away...

    For me...Arch/Matheos

Considering my own stuff sounds like I'm doing my best Windhand/Monolord impression, probably either of those guys. If I upped my weed intake and was willing to go shirtless, maybe they'd consider me for Sleep as I can hook into a riff for way longer than I need too.

When I was a kid, my guitar teacher said I could fill in for Megadeth. He of course was joking, but they were my favorite band at the time and when he would transcribe stuff, I would always ask for stuff from RIP.

I'll also throw in a second potential gig, since I do play a fair bit of bass nowadays (moreso than guitar feels accurate), but I think I'd do well in Clutch, or something of that style; just straight forward groovin' rock. I also practice a good chunk of alternative bands like Coheed and Paramore, so those wouldn't be crazy either.

Recently I've been playing bass a lot more than guitar. It's really tons of fun to just groove out. Would love to fill in either for guitar or bass in bands where the bassist and guitarist give each other space to do their thing (RHCP, Tool, Muse, etc.).

If I were 1000x better, maybe 2nd guitarist for Buckethead's touring band.

At my current skill level, though, I'm happy to take whatever I can get.

It's why I practice the stuff I do on bass, because not only do I listen to some of the bands (like Coheed/Paramore/My Chemical Romance), but there's a good chunk of stuff that's just super fun to play even if I would never listen to it normally and that's because they're given the space to do their thing

uhh probably Gojira or Mastodon since I'm a humongous fanboy of both bands and they've subconsciously taken over the way I write riffs. I could probably hack my way in a techier band but something about those hook laden riffs pleases my guitarist lizard brain.

If I got my chops up, probably RATT. Or Municipal Waste. I’d love to be the second coming of Roope Latvala though.

I would love to play a set with The Ghost Inside. I love their energy, they're the only band I've been able to figure their stuff out by ear, and I 'get' their sound because its really similar to my own.

Hell, I already know how to play almost their entire catalogue on multiple instruments.

Probably Down, around the NOLA era. Faster but filthy, just straight EMGs on ESPs into boosted Marshalls/Oranges/Randalls.

Love that shit and would love to play with those guys.

I'm in the perfect gig for me. I honestly wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
