Was thinking of buying the Stef set for a Stef B8 that came with emgs. But I play more death metal, on 8 would imagine more meshuggah, monuments, AAL. Would it be a mistake? Damn expensive pickups to get in Japan.

What EMG's are currently in the guitar? And what is attracting you to the Stef pickups specifically?

808s. They sound good, I generally like EMGs. I guess it's mostly about it being the matching set to that guitar and I want to try to get more fishman stuff around for a change. Probably have EMGs in 10+ guitars, fishman in none.

I’d say it’s worth it just to have the variety. The ease of swapping the Fishman and EMGs with the quick connect is a huge bonus, too. I’ve no experience with the Stef set though, so I can’t comment on their specific tonal options. The Abasi set is pretty baller, though if you’re open to other suggestions.

Ok,, is there a diagram ( or someone just tell what wire where) for using the EMG solderless push pull pot with the fishman p'ups to use both voices? I can get V1 to work but not both on the push pull. the last time I asked, that guitar had an EMG soldered push pull pot and the the diagram ( HeHasTheJazzHands) worked great but none of the emg diagrams are helping

Ever considered the 24v mod? Would be worth trying before replacing the 808s altogether.

Yea, I typically like the 24V mod, and I don't dislike the 808s either. Just wanting to try out the Fishmans I guess. Maybe my biggest concern is not the harm in trying out Fishmans, but in trying out the Stephen Carpenter set specifically. I heard some bad things, but if they're similar to the moderns, I don't see how it could be really worse than the 808s, at least on one voice.

So i have installed the Townsend's in my RGA. All the wiring seems on point, push pulls working etc. But i have a few issues with them and i wonder if it's just how the fluence are or if there is something wonky i should be investigating.

- they are definitely not quieter than any of my passive humbuckers. I would not even say tighter (even in the active voice 1).
- while they have a very good frequency response and great definition, it feels like they have a freaking high output but no "chug". Palm Mutes lack "meat". They are pretty grindy and mean in their own way but don't really hit hard.
- playing with pickup height didn't do much to anything i mention.

Is this normal, and are these just not for me? It kinda goes against everything i read about them so I'm wondering.

Not normal . Adler sets in my experience have lots of low end and are not noisy pickups . Probably a wiring issue

I used one of Abasi wiring diagram (two push pulls). According to the tech who did it (he also called fishman to double check) it's not an issue as basically all fluence work the same: ground a connection to enable a mode. When all pots are "pushed" it's a basic voice 1. All grounds seem good too.

Can you maybe record a little snippet? Maybe someone familiar with the Devys can say if something off or not.

Though something I noticed with the Modern-variant Fluences is that the mids and highs are... weird? Like there's a lot of high end but not a lot of attack. That could probably be adding to that feeling of lack of punch and chug. That was my issue with the Moderns, and I imagine the Devys rolled off high end can add to that.
