Eric Mongrain rules
Paul Gilbert's solo in the door by Neal Morse. If you can ignore the Jesus lyrics the song is amazing topped off by a really really excellent solo.
There are only two. Threat signals disposition and moonspells moon in
Any Rings of Saturn lead.
Even though they sound like a broken slot machine, I still love them.
Despite Lucas Mann being pretty fake too
Excellent taste. I can play the first few minutes of this song, but once Shawn starts getting crazy my brain just cannot keep up.
Imo, Eric's best performance of CoD. This is easily one of my most watched videos on youtube, it's just miles better than his other versions. The short chord section with the really warm fuzzy tone before one of the solos, incredible. This performance is only a few weeks younger than I am, iirc it was filmed just before Christmas in December 1988.
If there was one solo I wish I could play, it's the outro solo to "Bernard" by CAB. How does Tony Macalpine do it? He is not human. The fusion of incredible, finger destroying technique and incredible, catchy phrasing in this solo is just awe-inspiring. Everything fits and follow perfectly. Once he really takes flight, his fingers are blazing out notes at an incredible rate, yet the melodic theme is maintained and every phrase seems so valuable and important, there are no notes in there for the sake of having notes there. It's just magic.
Talking about Obscura, should I feel proud that I nail The Anticosmic Overload solo? Or you guys consider it easy?
I would love to be able to play Beyond The Dark Sun intro sweepfest. Damn.
The Glass Prison arps.
Doesn't matter how slow I start or how many times I play it, I can only get it up to maybe 140 bpm... 30 less than the recording.
I'd be happy if I could play any solo.
Anything by Fallujah.
Pretty much all the Galneryus material, especially save you. I can't nail the classical licks in the damn thing.
Sure. I'm happy as a pig in s__t everytime I manage to play a riff/solo from Obscura and it sounds close to the album.
I considered it "moderate difficult" because I was already familiar with Christian Muenzner's soloing style off of "Epitaph" from Necrophagist. I had the guitar tablature book (Epitaph) for some years and it gave me a headstart/idea of what Christian had to offer on "Cosmogenesis". If I had never been exposed or played any of Yngwie Malsteen and/or Necrophagist's material, I would probably have had trouble with the Anticosmic overload solo.
I was going to say this. I am the worst lead player on earth though
Is it clichéd to say Under A Glass Moon?
I'm sitting right there at the bottom with you buddy
No! That solo is so awesome
John Petrucci - Under A Glass Moon
I'm absolutely terrible at leads.
I've been playing for around 6 years now, and have only mastered 3 solos to the point of where I'd be happy to show someone them.
Anyone have any suggestions how to improve? Maybe some simple shred exercises?
Far beyond the sun was also a favorite of mine. I tried to play it 4 years ago but it's hard.. link here badly tuned guitar etc..
The best solo ever made, every frickin' note is like seeing a unicorn running away on a rainbow. In a deathmetal way.
It's at 03:00
Necrophagist - Fermented Offal Discharge HQ - YouTube
The Glass Prison beginning solo section. I remember saying "wow those sweeps are pretty crazy"... and then I found out they weren't sweeps, FML.
