I'm pretty new to this genre and all I know is I love the guitar tone, and I love bloodbath.
A lot of the tone was accomplished through either a Peavey 5150 or a Marshall with a Boss Heavy Metal pedal, they favoured quite simple setups really.
I like Bone Gnawer a lot, you might like them
inb4 ATG and Meshuggah
Yeah I heard that. But I swear bloodbath, I don't know how the hell they get their tone. It's just so extreme.
Maybe a Big Muff Pi through a duel rec or something like that?
Straight from the horse's mouth.
well shit. 0.0
Yup, the Sunlight Studios tone is pretty much a Boss HM-2 with everything dimed. Many, for example At The Gates and Dismember, used Peavey solidstates with the HM-2. The original solidstate was in fact a Peavey Bandit.
Let's see what Daniel Ekeroth has to say about it:
I was lucky enough to pick up a japanese model for $40 at a local pawn shop
God, I love the fuck out of Bloodbath. Been listening to Breeding Death non-stop for the past week. For some reason I never paid any attention to it until recently despite having everything else by Bloodbath.
I`ve been trying for the past day or so to get a relatively close tone from my pod farm but so far, this is the closest I have gotten:

Better leave this here.
coupla modern bands with that guitar tone:
Sweden has the best damn metal bands...
Not your typical "swedish death metal" (except maybe for Vomitory), but Meshuggah got posted here so who cares.
...i needed something to go with my meatballs.
And Grave cannot be forgotten, especially if you want the heaviest guitar sound in the world, ever:
Sacrilege. Daniel of In Flames' old band where he did drums and vox.
