In your opinion... which is the better guitar/company?

build quality for $

thanks!!

To be completely honest it would be hard to say for the simple reason that they fill 2 different niches (I own neither a mayones nor a suhr so obviously take my opinion with a Les Paul neck sized grain of salt). You'd get a great guitar either way considering what you're paying, but I guess if you wanna do more chuggy/djenty stuff you should get the Duvell. That being said I assume that a Suhr would be more versatile and you can play more varied stuff with it (genre-wise), like if you wanna play something funky I'd say it's harder to get that sound with two humbuckers like the duvell has.

Quality? Suhr. But a Modern Plus and a Duvell are night-and-day guitars - you should play both before dropping that kind of money. No experience with Caparison but the general consensus seems to be they're a tad expensive.
Having played guitars from all three companies...yeah, Caparison is not in the league of the other two. At least not the ones I've played recently.

I own a Regius and 2 Caps. Never played a Suhr.

What is the criteria you care about? The neck profiles and body sizes are rather different. It likely comes down to how much the design agrees with your personal preferences. I would disagree that the Mayones is "more metal". To me, the Caps play and sound more suited for metal. The Mayones kind of has a more generic feel to it.

My advice if you can't play first: for a thin neck, go with Mayo. For a regular neck, Caparison (caveat, it isn't a C profile). Buy something with a return policy. You can find a used Horus for under $2k, and it is worth it IMO.

Now some controversial opinion: Mayones is like the PRS of Europe targeting the thin neck (Ibanez) market. They make beautiful guitars. They have better aesthetics and are well built. The balance is great, but the body is larger and heavier. Because they have some prestige, they jacked prices to the point that buying one from US doesn't make much sense anymore.

Caparison is its own thing. The neck profile is U/D and gradually becomes C. It's more like a Fender than an Ibanez. They feel more like 80s or 90s superstrats. The sponge paint jobs are meh to me. The Horus is more like a Fender body and the TAT is more like a smaller Regius. Both of mine have exceptional playability with extremely low action. Both have the PH-R pickups. In one guitar they sound fine, but in the other they sound weaker and thin (and very clear). The one that sounds weaker sounds pretty comparable to the Mayones (which has BKP nailbombs).

I have also played an older TAT II briefly and I can understand why the older guitars get a bad rep. The neck was far too beefy to find it comfortable (thicker than a PRS Pattern neck).

If it were me buying another guitar, I'd go with a Caparison Horus or try a Suhr Modern.
Thank you. I found your reply very helpful concerning the Caps and Mayos...

The MJR i tried a few years back wasn't set up well (it was used @GC) the $ was enticing, but I was just so underwhelmed with the guitar overall, that i couldn't justify spending $2.5 on it...

Mayones, is very $$, and as you said, It just doesn't makes sense to by one in the US. Too many guitars offer the same at much lower $. They are exceptionally beautiful and unique, which I think is missing in the US market.

As I mentioned earlier I did go with a Suhr Modern... I think its a great guitar, plays very well.
It's a 14" radius FB... I used to 12-16... but not a huge deal.. but still noticeable.
I really like the guitar, but just not as "blown away" as I hoped I'd be...

Granted, i've been going back and for a while now... It's like smelling too many colognes at once..
my musical olfactory isn't working properly...

I'm goint to try the Alrich in the bridge of my new Suhr

My first Suhr was a chili pepper modern pro that had a top almost exactly like that one but it had a maple fretboard. That was my sellers remorse guitar that brought me back to them.

If You don’t care for the SSH+ in the bridge give the Aldrich a try, it sounds killer in these
I am going with the Alrich in the bridge for my Suhr. the SSH+ is pretty good.. very bright and articulate... I don't care for the low end... sounds 'wooly" and unfocused...

I hoping the Alrich is the ONE ingredient missing in this purchase.

The Aldrich is thick in the low end but still punchy. It kinda reminded me of the Duncan custom that was in my old esp usa eclipse
