Catched this one a long time ago: Not exactly a mistake, but Phil Anselmo's voice is at the limit at 4:55. Very noticeable with headphones.

That is the most Arcturus sounding belch ever haha

On Mr.Big's "To Be With You". Paul was nervous playing acoustic so the timing is a bit all over the place during the solo but he dug how it sound and said it was an eye opening moment for him how imperfections can sometimes sound better because they throw you off.

I can think of lots of times I've heard string noise from behind the nut or guitarists making mistakes but its hard to know what's purposely kept in and what was missed during recording.

Herman Li breaks a string at the of Through the Fire and the Flames, he loved the sound of it and kept the take.

    Alexi coughs up phlegm 3:06

Its inaudible on the original because of the guitar solo.

Idk if you've ever seen them live but the dude is literally spitting the entire time he plays.

I’ve seen them 8 times I think and he’s like a fountain

Not a good act to follow if the stage hasn’t been cleaned

Anyone else notice at about 3:36 of "Time" by Anthrax, there sounds like a siren for like half a second that seems totally out of place?

By all means punch in and overdub it, add more gain if you need to, I don't care; do what you have to to make it jump out.

About a minute and a half into Led Zeppelin's The Ocean you can heat a phone ringing in the background.

Adam squashes a palm mute at about 7:04 in the right speaker. I love it.

A Day to Remember often keep in the studio "conversation" before or after their songs. This one you hear the guy hit the spacebar to play the recording, the vocalist hums the melody line then shouts "I GOT IT!" before the song kicks in.

The other one that springs to mind is the "ghost" in the studio on The Moor by Opeth.
I read this ages ago and apparently (maybe) Peter said to Mikael "Why did you do that cough?" and Akerfeldt replied "What cough?"
Cue the pair of them getting freaked out in a deserted studio late at night.

Edit: Apparently its at 10:08, and if I'm hearing it right its more of a loud breath.

The “ka-chunk” muted guitar strum at the beginning of the chorus in Radiohead’s Creep was a mistake. The guitar player would do that to see if his sound was on, and he did it during a take, and at first people were pissed at him, but (iirc) the producer thought it sounded good and made it an integral part of the tune.

And wasn’t the “come on Dave, give me a break” in Unchained originally a “mistake,” only to be made a part of the song later?

When I'm having a bad day, kind of like today, I tend to visit this thread and listen to the belch in OP. It always puts a smile on my face because deep down inside I'm still five years old.

The whole album is super awesome, it's sorta fantastic and makes you forget about heavy stuff, always puts me in a good mood... Or at the very least doesn't feed negative thoughts like sometimes other music can (for me at least)

There’s a subreddit dedicated to this stuff- r/ProductionGlitches

I don’t have much to add, but if you listen to the Vocals Only version of most AIC tunes, you can hear Layne clearing his throat, humming and making mouth noises between vocal lines.

My buddy went to Berklee for audio production, one of his classes played a master tape of a James Brown tune. When they solo’d the vocals they could hear his shoes hitting the floor from him dancing so loud that no one could believe the engineer left it all in there.

Really, listening to any of those Guitar Only, Vocals Only, Keys Only tracks from Rock Band/Guitar Hero, if it was recorded on tape, the edits are so much more abrupt than one would assume. Listening to those are a learning lesson in recording on it’s own.
