Going to tune a 6 string, 24 Fret, 25.5" to drop A. The tension calculators never work for me (I guess I'm a moron). I want to keep my tension the same. Normally I'm in Drop C with 11, 14, 18, 28, 38, 49. What string set will give me the same tension in drop A?
Edit: This should work with a 6 string tuned 3.5 steps down, with the low string tuned to A: http://www.guitarcenter.com/DAddario/XL148-Nickel-Wound-Drop-C-Tuning-Electric-Guitar-Strings.gc
Your current values as per regular D'addario strings (this will differ depending on brand and type of string material). 0.0110 in. 15.58 lbs 0.0140 in. 14.16 lbs 0.0180 in. 14.75 lbs 0.0280 in. 16.76 lbs 0.0380 in. 16.63 lbs 0.0490 in. 11.95 lbs A 10-59 D'addario 7-string set (minus the 10) will get you in the ball park: 0.0130 in. 15.390 lbs 0.0170 in. 14.77 lbs 0.0260 in. 18.39 lbs 0.0360 in. 19.04 lbs 0.0460 in. 16.910 lbs 0.0590 in. 12.60 lbs If you want values that are more exact then you would have to buy individual strings.
I would check out the D'addario Baritone Light set. It's 13, 17, 26, 36, 46, 62 and would be a better fit for drop A than the 7 string set since the bottom string won't have such a large gap in tension compared to the 46/E and you won't have to waste the high E string
I'm using d'addarrio 13-62 light baritones and they work pretty well. The low A is a bit loose but the rest of the strings work well.
