I thought some of you guys may get a kick out of this. Steve and his new guitar, called the Pia. The name comes from Steve's wife, Pia Maiocco. Anyways, picture and Youtube videos for those curious.

The Jem7VWH was my second guitar. Worked a whole summer as a teen to buy it in the mid 90s. Of COURSE this is interesting. The Jem and the JS are part of my guitar DNA. I'd be going for the classic format. But the others look really good too.

I'd like to get one but I believe I'd have trouble playing it with the tree of life inlays. I'd have to slow down my playing and look for the frets because how they're connected to each other. The magnetic back plate is ingenious.

Steve is likely making good money from the sales of his guitars which is good for him I guess. I do feel that it's a pretty useless guitar if you already have a Jem. I do not think they look particularly good either.

I had no difficulty in playing with the tree of life fretboard. Never felt that for a second, but experiences may vary.

Though dot boards actually mess with my orientation when playing a Tree of life or vine doesn't as much because of each fret being different than the same inlay. Still messes with me a little bit though. Funny thing is that side dots don't though.

I dig absolutely everything but the jizz splat grip. Totally would rock that pink, but wondering why they didn’t do some kind of a sonic blue to match the colors in the tree of life tint. IMO blue would sell way better than that gold....

The yellow (gold), green, and pink have all sold out.

    The white is still available.

Wow. Even my wife thought it looked meh in that yellow. I figured white would be at the bottom of sales though. Did they make equal stock of each color?

Keep in mind I’ve been after an RG Gold for 10+ years...

The pink, green and yellow are all limited, as a tribute to the original JEMs. The white is the standard edition colour to go along with the JEM7V in white.

There was the Gold-1 and Gold-2... only 6 made of each. Identical except 2 has the birds. The body is gold leaf and iirc the hardware is just typical gold finish.

That picture is all artsy, in person it's plain gold hardware.

That's pretty nice. Never saw Ibanez do anything like those duks before. I know the hardware is gold but the pict lets us know what a copper LoPro would look like. Like those copper Floyds. Pretty cool.

Good to see the monkey grip has gone. Monkey grips are cheap and ugly holes cut into hardware. This was only accepted in a guitar because it was Steve Vai, if the JEM had never existed and Ibanez added this to a guitar now they would be rightly ridiculed.
It is not even particularly useful, people rarely carry a guitar around like a suitcase, and the top horn already provides a handle.

However to be clear, i really appreciate what Steve Vai and Ibanez have done for the advancement of extended range guitar.

The RG Gold-1 has the Gold leaf on back as well whereas the Gold-2 is a more of a silvery metallic solid finish on the back. I had both those models.

I'd rather get a J Custom RG and have money left over.

I saw the pink one up and close and ALMOST fell in love, the handles throw me off... but the details in the pickups are amazing.
