Steve Vai's guitar "Bo" was stolen earlier today at a loading area outside of The Wiltern Theater in L.A. It's a mirror Ibanez JEM with blue LED's, a Sustainer system, and a red laser built into the headstock/neck. The forearm contour is also cracked/distressed a bit. Attached is a picture. If you hear something or think you've seen it, please message this page. Thank you. *Update Bo's serial ‪#‎F0006311‬

If Im not wrong this was while setting up for the Tony MacAlpine Benefit Concert in Los Angeles.

this person is either someone who doesnt have any clue of what he was doing/stealing, like he/she jsut saw a "guitar" adn took off. OR either its a very very very dumb fan.

This is not "Evo" or "Flo", but this is still one of the top 5 guitars of Vai. IF this thief stole this knowing who he stole it from and its planing to sell it, he is gonna have a very bad time. Only people "interested" in this guitar would be Vai's fan, and everyone who likes Steve Vai would recognise this guitar. And if it is just for "him", what hes going to do with it?, like he wont be able to show it to anyone, again as everyone who knows Vai and would want to see their buddy's "new Jem" would know this guitar. AT least the JP15 at NAMM was a production model, but this is a LACS way different to the production model that again every Vai's fan knows of it

I wonder if he deliberate took this guitar, or he just grab one case at random. Which makes me think. A player like Vai with the arrange of guitars he takes to every gig, how does he travel with them?, like each one in a separate case, or by 3 guitar per flight case or something like that?

More photos of "Bo" -Steve's mirror JEM that was stolen today outside of The Wiltern Theater in L.A. If you see the guitar or hear something about it, please message the page. Bo's serial # F0006311 Here are some physical traits unique to Bo:
-Bo has blue LED fret dots and a red laser in the headstock tip. They are turned on by an on/off switch and powered by battery.
-Bo has deep scratches on the armrest area, and the mirrored surface shows wear.
-Bo is equipped with a Fernandes Sustainer FSK-401 system, with an extra sustainer control knob and sustainer control switches.
-The mirror pickguard has been cracked noticeably around the volume knob.
-The guitar is a LACS model with an Ibanez Lo Pro Edge tremolo- all production BRMR Jems had the Edge Pro tremolo.
-Bo's neck was broken in 2013 behind the nut, and was repaired by Ibanez. The neck is super thin with a "skunk stripe" walnut strip, while all production BRMR Jem necks were of a 5 piece design.
-The guitar has a piece of green Gaff tape on the side of the left arm rest with its name "Bo" written on it in marker.
-Bo has a prototype Ibanez UTA whammy bar made of aluminum.
-The pickups have black gaff tape on them to keep the strings from getting caught.
-Bo is equipped with an Ibanez Backstop device, located in the tremolo cavity of the guitar

I just read about this and came straight here to post about it. You beat me to it. How are people such assholes. It´s a damn benefit concert and then this.

Hope the guitar is returned and the person made aware of how much he/she sucks.

Really sucks... I was wondering why he was playing Bad Horsie with a reg 7vwh. He then announced some ....er stole it the mornining of and that he always played Bad Horsie and Building the Church on it. He than said later in the show he dosen't care and whoever finds it can keep it lol! Sounds like he was a bit broken up after losing it... Excellent show none the less.

I've had a guitar stolen straight off the stage, and one stolen from the post office. I've been present at NAMM shows where one-of-a-kind guitars were simply picked up and walked off with. There's no level guitar thieves won't stoop to once they've recognized their opportunity, and it's unfortunately as representative of the rat-race attitude guitarists have toward each other as it is the out-of-county pawn-fencing racket.

Sorry for the dumb question out of topic.
I'm obviously pissed that an object (no matter if it's a guitar or a tea spoon) is stolen...but what are those 2 things between the tremolo springs?

Ibanez BackStop fairly rare pieces.

Man I can't believe that ..... Hope they get caught and someone beats their ass. Good luck ever playing it at a gig or trying to sell it.

Chances are it made it to a local pawn shop pretty quick. It now has a $300 price tag and a description saying "Ibanez electric guitar - AS IS". Because no one involved knew what they were dealing with.

Bo has been found!

Great news everyone: Bo, Steve's mirrored JEM that went missing this past weekend, has been found left in the bushes at the gate on Steve's property. We do not have any more details on how it got there and will perhaps forever remain a mystery. The entire Vai camp is grateful for all the amazing outpouring of support we have seen regarding this issue over the last week. Bo is now ready for 2016 and all the notes she will once again be singing from Steve’s fingers and soul.

^^ you beat me to it. Great to see everything worked out fine. I wonder what happened, like he stole a guitar thinking it was another one, or stole it to sell but realize he wouldnt be able, or he just wanted to take sexy pics with the guitar lol

either way mr Steve seems happy to have his baby back

Glad he got his guitar back. Would hate for him to only have 250 guitars left in his collection.

That's my favorite guitar of his, so I'm REALLY glad to see it made it back. :agreed:

I wonder if this means he'll retire it and keep it as a home and studio-only instrument, though? Given how unique Bo is, I would NEVER want to risk that ever again.

Vai's part of the elite few who know the pain of losing and recovering a free guitar.

and again his #1 guitar is EVO who is older, way more unique, and he plays it way way way more than Bo
