I am in the STL area though I don't know many local bands. I would have to ask my contacts at the two Guitar Center shops in the area. I will be speaking to them soon and will report back.

Icon & Anchor, The Dread Corsair are both really good bands from the area.

I'm from kansas and honestly there isn't much on the metal side of things. There are but it's.. poor.. more on the side of heavy rock. The biggest best band in kansas right now IMO is Second Signal, but they aren't metal. Missouri might be different though. Good luck dude! Kansas is usually boamont, granata, Aftershock, and maybe a few others play a majority of rock.

StL here as well... I'm not really connected to the local metal/music scene that much anymore, but i haven't heard about anyone outstanding. There's a lot of "metal" bands, but no one *really* sticks out. It's all very screamo or grindcore-ish the last time I looked around. I wish I knew of some though.

A few years ago Grindcore was the big thing in STL. I knew of at least 5 or 6 bands around the saint louis area that were playing every show from grindcore to death metal, these dudes were popping up everywhere. From what I know every one of these bands is gone now...

For some fellow STL metalheads you might recognize a few of these names-

    Beware of This and That
    Sassophrass
    Dick Ford
    Jenna
    By the Thousands

The scene here is sooooo jaded.
Every band here either wants to sound like disturbed or shinedown or limp bizkit or attack attack.
There is no good death, thrash, grind or even djent at all.

at the moment, the only local bands I'd consider even decent metal would be ThorHammer and Cross Examination.

Hemorrhaging Elysium is prolly the closest you'll get to decent grind around here though. not the worst ive ever heard.

Yeah haha, but like the guy above said, the scene here is saturated with a MASSIVE ammount of shitty bands trying to copy nu metal and screamo. No good real metal bands. There are a few that are around but the good ones are in haitus or already on tour.

The STL metal scene is a dead echo of what it once was IMO.

Used to really fucking good. Used to go to all the shows featuring national acts because the local openers were actually worth seeing, now Im one of those people that show up an hour late so that I dont have to see the local opener :(
