First off, I really love my 1x12 and the 6505mh I have it paired with. It's compact and fits where I want it. The speaker in it sounds like poo.

    So my question is:

What speaker would you pair with a high gain amp and an 8 string tuned to drop E with an 808 in the bridge? (want an SD retribution)
I'm already thinking a celestion v30, but I wanted y'alls opinion. Yes, y'all is an acceptable word where I'm from.:fever:

Whooo boy, that EVM is too rich for my blood. That K100 looks right up my alley though. Thanks much

I forgot to mention that I'm trying to achieve a tone close to Archspire's tone. Crushing

Archspire use Recto OS 4x12s so go v30 or WGS Veteran 30 but understand that the speaker is just a single component of how a total cab sounds
you need the big fat ass recto cab

also Dean and his wife are mega cute

I saw that on youtube. As well as using Kiesel lithium pickups. I'm getting pretty close to the tone, but it isn't as clear. I assumed it was the speaker and the 808. You bring up a good point about the oversized recto cab. They're definitely adorable by the way.

also Y'allmstve is something I hear a lot down here lol

I'm a fan of Classic Lead 80 if you've only got 1 speaker - they are balanced but beefy

I really enjoy Eminence Legend V12... keeps lows under control, mid oriented, fizz reduced from top.

This sounds like its right where I want it. I'm leaning towards this with the K100 being second. Thanks so much y'all

Ive seen archspire many times and their tone is a lot like an albums guitar tone where theres not much lowend at all and is super hipass filtered which is what gives them so much clarity.
If im not mistaken i dont think theyve used cabs live for quite awhile. Ive definitely been front stage and sometimes its very hard to hear the guitars since they are just using iem and going front of house. Dont quote me though lol

Edit: make sure to check out claires band Hallowed Catharsis who are absolute sweet hearts and fucking incredible, especially live!

Hmmm that's interesting. What kind of modeler do they use? I tried with my hd500x first through my 6505's power amp and I couldn't get any thing that sounded decent except the Uber sim. I did turn off cab sim too. I'm definitely going to check it out! Thanks broseph

My vote goes to the eminence Governor. They are an outstanding speaker for metal. They are clear, tight, and aggressive. They mellow a little with age, and some of the high end works out of them which to me is great. I have a 6505 MH and a 2x12 cab with 1x PJ and 1x gov and love it.

K100 are great too. My experience with them was an enjoyable punchy low end, kind of dry in the middle and scrapey on the top. A good example of their dryish tighness with Dual Rec is Opeth - Ghost Reveries. I really like K100 with V30 combo. V12's are not quite as aggressively pushy on the low end but are a little prettier (maybe chimier) on the top.

Just picked up a Mesa Thiele 1x12... has the Celestion C90 Black Shadow. It's not listed on Celestion's site, since it's a Mesa exclusive speaker, but a bit of research indicated it may be similar (or even rebranded?) CL80. In any case, I just picked it up but so far loving it! Paired with a combo that had a Creamback in it.

    MC90 is a UKmade CL-80/G12-80 cousin.

    It's also awesome.

The Celestion Redback is a pretty decent option too for a clear higher power sounding speaker. It's like a K100 with more mids. I'm not personally a big fan of either speaker but they're alright. Matt from Trivium uses the Redback now at least for his live streams a 5150 into 1 if you want to see what one sounds like. CL80 and C90 are both great speakers too if you want a clearer speaker, I have both but one is in my Mark IV combo so I can't really directly compare them but most comments online make it seem like it is a bit more "brown sound" like vs the CL80.
