After spending way too much time searching around youtube for some decent recordings of suboctave bass I think I finally found some good examples. With all the discussion of low tuned bass here of late, I figured I'd throw them up since I haven't seen them posted before.

Some of you may already know about Yves Carbonne and his monstrous fretless ERBs. This 10 is tuned from E0:

This 12 is tuned from B00 (!) but I think the lowest note he hits is D#0 at around 0:41

And finally here we have a 4 an octave below normal.

Not exactly the context most of the guys on this board would use sub bass in, of course. And my apologies if someone else has already posted these.

    Enjoy!

I am very happy that bassists such as Yves have managed to achieve results like this. It's incredible and if it works for them, great :)
With tunings that low though..I don't know - I guess I can put it simply and say whenever those notes are played I think it would simply sound better an octave up. The limit for my preference is around the F#-G# area. E0 is the lowest I've heard and liked.
That said, Yves is probably my favourite bassist :)

Huge Yves fan here! I love this stuff, tasteful, fun, and innovative at the same time... and a true inspiration for those of us who go low. :agreed:

That last video is hilarious and sounds awful, but the others were really cool, and some good music.

I bought both his albums the other day! He actually uses alot of the range, which i really appreciate. Id like to see a vid of him explain all the notes and play them individually so you can hear them better.

the last video actually sounds really nice in the low end, if you have good monitors. the strings are clunky and rattling though.

Yves did an album with Michael Manring and Dominic Dipiaza, it wasn't very good though. Yves sort of played the bass, for the bass. Yves covered all the low stuff, and Dominic and Michael soloed over the top of it, the song's were not that good though, unfortunately.
