If someone had done a headless acoustic correctly I would be seriously impressed. Attempts like this though, I mean there's no way the person who did this lacked the basic foresight to understand they were just taking the long road to throwing the guitar in the trash. I don't understand that.

If someone had done a headless acoustic correctly ...

You'd likely have to use something like the tuners from a Portuguese Guitar (linear-pull 12-string Mandolin-ish).

I can see doing this if you converted it to a short scale bass but why?? Gigantic hands has to be the only explanation.

Got the link? I just searched for "8 string conversion) and only got MandoCello relevant stuff. I also tried "atomic music" but got bubkiss.

The different spacing and smaller number of the strings makes the guitar look like a mandolin, although being a 27" scale length...

I'm all for "Classical Spaced" strings (51-48mm nut width for a 6-string), but at 55mm (≈2-3/16"), that's a bit wide, even form me. Also, they really didn't need to spread-out the bridge spacing. If they had only dropped down to 7-strings and kept the bridge spacing the same, I'd have some interest.
