    Hello Everyone,

I have not done a post in quite awhile but as the title states is anyone entered in this contest yet? Guitar Solo Contest

I just finished up my entry and there is some new gear in action I haven't done any posts for. https://youtu.be/g_l6zvm_fUE

Post your entries here for all to see or let me know how much mine sucks!

    Thanks

I would totally enter this if my recording gear didn't consist of a toaster and an old rockband microphone.

Thought I'd give it a shot. Thanks for posting this thread, I would have had no idea about this contest otherwise!

Here is my favourite so far:

I myself won't compete, because my lead capabilities are too limited to have a chance. I'm a rhythm guitarist.

I made one too...although I'm in the same boat as you Aymara.
I'm a rythm player, never was interested in playing lead/solo/shredding.
But that guitar looks juicy, and you can only learn by trying again and again.
I had fun writing/recording my stuff anyway :)

They should give you a prize for originality alone. That was fantastic.

Like some of you I'm more of a rhythm guy but these competitions always pull me in. Takes me forever to write solos and I only found out about this on Thursday, but saying that I think it turned out okay.

    Some great entries here too!

I'm not sure if anyone is following this, but there is a "developing story", that the guy ranked 2nd (and thereby winning an awesome Mesa rig) appearantly cheated/faked the whole video?

Maybe, yes, but beside that I'm totally shocked about this winners ... sorry, but was this a solo contest or a speed contest?

Those winners totally lack feeling, that's pure shredding ... boring ... except maybe place 5.

I would have voted the woman I posted above over all those winners!

HBIH just wrote something concerning the contest.

Here's what I think of the issue (I wrote it in the comments):

Have you seen the solo...he is shredding when there is a slow part. I feel like this ruins every music 'contest' there ever will be. Facking joke if you ask me.

Yeah, the situation doesn't look too good for the guy.
I really liked his entry when I heard it (back when he first posted it), and I was a little amazed of how everything was so clean and "even"; it sparked my mind that he might have done some heavy reamping of the track, and
the bad syncing of audio/video at some point was kinda strange (thoug I wasn't sure).

But really, just close your eyes (or the YT page) while listening with good headphones and you can hear that some parts are completely fake.
Sometimes you hear the actual pick attack, then you hear all even notes that sound terribly similar to GP6 (as someone pointed out).

If you check another entry he did for a competition some year ago, he's trying to do all this tapping/sweeping .... without hitting one single note.
So you're telling me that in 1 year and a half, you went from "I can't (almost) play for ...." to "Yngwie can suck me off" ?

    Nope. :nono:
    Not buying it.

Its the midi tapped notes with no pick attack that instantly give it away. Actual guitar notes bleed into one another and picking up and down give a different attack/tone to a note. With midi or editing note by note everything is super clear with a surgical cut off to the note before the next one which gives an unnatural sound.

I'm not going to defend the guy or his practices, but yes, people can absolutely go from zero to hero at sweeping in a year and a half. That's a lot of time to work on a skill especially if you're on point with your intent, discipline and focus.
