Hi guys, I was listening to Jaco's Portrait Of Tracy the other day and it made me wonder- Do you guys know any other solo bass pieces? I'm mostly aiming at stuff I can try to learn (say, easy to medium difficulty)- So posting Evan Brewer or Michael Manring won't help much...
I'd prefer pieces in which I don't need to double track myself using a looper or anything... Just a solo-bass piece.

    Any suggestions?

Bassically -- Black Sabbath, it's basically just a bass solo (many think of it as the intro to N.I.B.)

Cliff Burton (Metallica) - Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth), but if you want some crazy awesome bass lines that aren't metal you should look into anything off of Fragile by YES or Tower of power. Great bass lines.

Les Claypool to if you can dig it:

I know you said you didn't want layered stuff but Jean Baudin is inspirational to any bassist IMO for coming up with your own stuff and pushing the boundaries of the instrument.

Uses a lot of the same harmonic techniques from "Portrait of Tracy," and then all the slap bass ever. Such a simple tune, played beautifully.

The fast middle section may be tricky at first but overall not overtly difficult.

A simple tune???!? That whole solo is ....ing insane. There's like two parts in there that are simple.

Difficulty is relative. What techniques can you do well?

Thanks for the comments guys! New job+no computer makes it hard to keep track on what's going on around here...

Actually I just found this video by Scott Devine which is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for:

Kinda hard to say  I'm still a bass newbie, so I was hoping to find challenging-yet-not-impossible pieces to work on.

obviously feel free to post more, there are never enough solo bass pieces :metal:

How are your writing skills? Could always write something original, if you're up to it.

Honestly I would just find a solo song on another instrument (guitar naturally being the most straightforward) and translate it to bass. Or you could try learning one of Aaron Gibson's songs, which are usually pretty modest technique-wise.
