Wow a wee wa! Lot of replys!

Ive had the sword for at least 10 years. I dont know how or when my grandpa got it. All I know is its a "Dress Sword". Meaning its not sharp in the least. A butter knife would do more damage. So being that it wasnt meant for battle, its in great shape. All the pics of ones I found were close to it, but not exactly the same and the prices were all over the place. Im not dying to sell it, just interested in what its worth and if its a substantial amount maybe Ill sell it.

As for getting it appraised, I dont want to take it to a pawn shop and get ass raped. I cant find any nazi sword/war weapons collectors anywhere near me. I dont want to take the risk of sending it out to get appraised.

Well, depending on whose it was, will depend on the price. If it was a higher Officer of the SS' then it could go for a pretty penny, but the same could be said for a no name soldier, I'm not too sure, I haven't really kept a close eye on WWII weapons, my swords are all asian.

I'll keep an ear to the ground on prices and the like and see what the average is and let you know for if you ever decide to sell it, man. :yesway: Also, because I'm interested in them.

being a collector of edged weaopons i can tell you this :) value of a military sword is like a guitar :) there are several variations by the same company at the same time period. also alot depends on who or what rank the person the sword was made for is/ or was.

posting pics of a "like" sword is the same as posting a pic of a random "old" guitar and asking what your old guitar is worth.

also there are alot of forums you could join and ask your question for value. add pics of your sword :)

any appraiser will ask to see it in person. so if you think it is worth something you will have to take it or send it away for an official appraisal ;)

if it wasnt your grandfathers (formally) and is not tied to your family, i would sell it :)
now is a good time to sell. with all the pawn shows/antique shows on the air now. everybody is "pickin" but they are not well informed and will jump on anything they think is valuable. this raises the price on antiques :) i recently sold 2 different world war/german mauser bayos. i bought them about 7-9 years ago for $30 a piece. i sold them on c.l. to one collector for $350.00

if its a larger money amount i would wait about a month or 2 for incometax checks to come in before i put it on the market ;)

You might learn nothing by getting it appraised, but- what if it was Hermann Göring's sword or something, you'd never know until an expert said so, and what's the worth of knowing something like that?

an "official" appraisal would figure value. if its a common $200 dollar sword, then hermann wouldnt have owned it ;) now if they appraisor values it high and rare, you can start digging :) also, tying an object to a person in history is hard to do without pictures/documents/proof. but an appraisal is a good start :)

i own alot of antiques/historical shit lol. i also help my father in law with his clock/antique business.

Dude, just take the sword, kill some bitches, take their money and you'll get some bucks easily. Becoming a pirate is a good choice too

Museums only accept donations.

Hmm... I've seen some documentary programs where museums did buy artifacts. Actually, one of the programs I saw was about an ancient artifact forger who duped (or tried to) a museum out of a few million. I know art museums have bought paintings and such as well.

To the OP, Antique Roadshow!! :D

Not sure how close this is but you can get an idea of what a Nazi sword can go for.
Nazi Police NCO Sword with knot, SW36PC - Swords

You can also take some detailed pictures and send it to them, they will give you a ballpark value of it.
Search through the site and check out the dagger, they can go for good money.

As bad as WW2 was, holding a Nazi dagger, gun , sword just feels incredable, the evil that it gives off is just insane. In the case of a knife I held you just can't imagine what it could of done. The rust on it looked like dry blood, it was serious Death Metal!!

Not a fan of Nazi's but love power and history, there is no greater evil symbol than the Nazi Swastika!
