On the "Battle of the bays" tour here in the UK I missed King Parrot saw Prong (one of my favourite bands & the sole reason I bought the ticket) I enjoyed Exodus despite them not totally being my cup of joe but Obituary?.....oh man! :hbang:

First off I'll confess I've never seen/listened to these guys before as they weren't together when I was really getting into metal plus I'm a little picky about extreme metal anyway but these guys seem to do all the things that I love about the genre but have never found in one band.

Another thing I have to mention is their guitar tone as it definitely takes a tip from Tom G Warrior's sound but goes it's own way and has a solid mix of low end and gristle that retained perfect clarity all night.

So I'm now a fan but I also have a question for you guys....are there any other bands in a similar vein? (pun intended, it's Halloween!)
Just to be clear it's the riffing I love most but also the vocals cause they're not in the cookie monster style and sound more like Skeletor having a nasty argument with the Evil Dead.

I also saw them on Thursday. It was incredible. I also missed King Parrot as the Bandsintown app stated the doors were at 7, not 6, so Prong were already onstage when I got there. I've seen all three before, but that was one hell of a night.

I've always got a kick out of Obituary's vocals.

Maybe Celtic Frost, Death or Morbid Angel

Welcome to the club. Obituary has been one of my favorite death metal bands for well over 20 years now, and they are awesome live too.

Trevor Peres' guitar tone, and style has been a strong inspiration for me all these years too. So thick and angry. (One of the primary reasons I've ended up finding my tone with the Marshall sound, along with Celtic Frost, among others).

There really is no other band like Obituary, but check out Asphyx, and maybe Bolt Thrower, Cianide, and Disma.

Try the Tardy Brothers album put out a few years ago and maybe some old Benediction stuff like The Dreams You Dread

For all the death metal I have ever listened to, I have never found another that sounds like Obituary.

Been an Obituary fan since the late 80's! Good stuff. Give Death a listen, their definitely different but still in the same era of Death metal.

Why are you guys missing King Parrot! Good aussie metal! (Although I'm disappointed skitz is no longer drumming for them... he is a mad drummer).

They're a great live act, I saw them in October last year in Newcastle, with Voivod, Carcass and Napalm Death. What a show that was.
