I dig it. It sounds great to me with the boost and the mids up. I'm a bit surprised by how differently it sounds than my SLO 100 -- I can't get such a great metal tone out of mine, but I don't have a depth mod, so things are dialed in very different.

That was where the Hot Rod Plus was better. The one I had was the last revision (9 knob iirc) with depth and presence and with a boost/OD in front it was awesome for metal.

Watched it this morning and was surprised at those controls and how good it sounded.

The big SLO (at least the two I have tried) couldn't get that metal by itself. It always needed the volume to sound great. But it was a bit on hair metal territory as far as I remember.

Sounds good even with Ola's medium output pups. But that Slo30 is $2.7K. There are better amps to be had at that price.

Love the amp... also fun predicting what the comments are going to be on the various forums before looking at them:
    TGP: chugging not music etc
    ss.org: too expensive etc
GN Facebook: not 80s enough etc

EDIT: shockingly the too expensive thing seems to be spreading to TGP too... guess it is no longer the home of $5k amp snobs

I also had a Soldano Hot Rod for a short period of time. Shit is mad loud - practice/gig only volume. If you don't have the facility to make that kinda noise, you've got a big chunk of cash sitting there going unused. I hate living in dense population in a flat.

Anyway, as always, Ola made this sound killer. But not €2.6k killer. Yikes.

I don't like it through that cab, curious to see if it does tones more my style (seems versatile enough?)

Listening again with better cans. I just noticed that the Slo30's boosted sound is at least close to my unboosted 5150II. At volume 1.

    Yep. Im good..

Sounds reasonably like I recall my SLO sounding, and the SL60 I had more recently. That saturated, bright yet squishy brown thing happening. Love it standard tuned but not a great match IMHO with an 8-string.

The gain knob sweep is different. I remember my SLO needed to be between 5 to 6.5. Over that was bonkers saturated, and below that was meh. The knob in the demo seems to have much more useable sweep.
