So, I saw that Skervesen are produced in Poland. Which struck me as surprising, because the name sounds a bit more Scandinavian in origin.

Then I got to thinking, why would a Polish bloke call it Skervesen, especially since it's not the founders last name or anything like that.

Then it occurred to me that 'Skervesen', phonetically sounds a lot like the colorful Polish term 'Zkurwy Sin' - which means "Son of a Bitch."

Was the founder trolling? Or have I been puffing the herb too much?

Before I knew it was Polish, I thought it was Norwegian. So I agree that it sounds Scandinavian. :D Don't know what it means though, sorry.

Well the insult is written skurwysyn and not zkurwy sin, which just reinforces the idea that Skervesen could be derived from it.

I've always hear that it was son of a bitch/bastard depending on who was talking, so this is in agreement with what I've heard.

I had a guy come over to my place a few years ago because he was looking to buy a CS6 and he wanted to try one of mine. We were talking about guitars and I mentioned Skervesen, he looked at me really funny, he had never heard of them. I said they were a newer Polish brand and he laughed and said "that name means son of a bitch." So I guess there is truth to it.

I asked this question on the Skervesen owners group. The Skervesen staff and owner said it was a common Polish expression, akin to "son of a bitch!". The direct translation is "whore son". They said that this was something that people said when they saw the initial prototypes  so they anglicised it slightly and went with that name. Damn perfect if you ask me! I have two and they're some of the best instruments I have played.

Also, that discussion corrected my pronunciation of the name. I had been saying "Skur-VAY-sen" but apparently it's "Skur-VEE-sen".
