So I'm looking searching the internet right now for a book listing and thoroughly explaining any mythical creature you can think of and then some. My girlfriend likes to write in her spare time and it's usually fantasy and sci-fi. I want to get her something for christmas to help her get ideas for different characters. She is never satisfied with her characters because she feels they are not unique.

I remember this book from when I was younger that had what I'm looking for and it was worth a pretty penny. Now I'm having trouble finding such a book. Every one I'm seeing doesn't seem like it would have something to offer she didn't know about already.

Anyway, if you know of a book like the one I'm searching for, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it.

The beaver is hunted for its testicles, which are valued for making medicine. When the beaver sees that it cannot escape from the hunter, it bites off its testicles and throws them to the hunter, who then stops pursuing the beaver. If another hunter chases the beaver, it shows the hunter that it has already lost its testicles and so is spared.

Sorry, this doesn't really answer your help for a book on the subject, but I started reading about it and, such awesomeness. I read about a flying snake, a snake with a head on it's tail, a goose that grows on trees, a hyena-lion, etc. If you can't find a book, maybe direct her to some of these sites.

There was this encyclopedia of mythology at the library in HS my drummer and I used to check out now and then. Not all about creatures but there were some in there. An encylopedia set is likely to be pricey but maybe it's out there used somewhere. There was pretty much a volume for each major region... the best one was the viking mythology!

Wouldn't getting someone who's trying to make "unique" mythological creatures a book about existing mythological creatures be counterproductive?

I say forget the book and give her DMT or LSD or something...
