anyone play a scalloped 7 besides me? and no i don't mean the wussy scallop that comes on whatever vai models with only 4 frets scalloped... i mean a real scallop... my 7 is half scalloped, from 12-24, i have 2 6's that are full scalloped, and i found it just doesn't work for riffing at all... so i expirimented with a half scallop on my RG7421(with blaze custom bridge pup), and absolutely love it, it is the perfect scalloped setup... i wouldn't do without it now... heres pics... do my own scallops, the 3 i've done so far have been fairly rough, i wasn't concerned as much with looks as i was with function...

Schweeeeeeet! I've always wanted to try a scalloped board. Never had the opportunity yet.

I just sold my RG7421. Is the neck holding up okay with so much mass removed? Other than the Universe, I think the RG7421/RG7621 have just about the thinnest seven string necks anywhere.

the neck is holding up great... its been about 8 months or so since i've done it and it still plays perfectly. i think that is because the fretboard really doesn't take much of the load of the neck, especially since its just a glued on piece... itd be a different story if it was a 1 piece neck... hopefully if i'm accepted to roberto-venn school of luthiery i can learn more about scalloping than just what i've done so far...

Man, I would wrap some 1000grit around your finger, clean up the roughness, then bore oil the hell outta that... hehehe

i don't think 1000 grit would be good enough, i would have to take some bastard files and clean it up, then do probly 400 grit, then probly 1000...

I only did one scallop job my whole life, and it was the top 6 frets on a jackson I used to own. I really liked it. Those damn scallops sucked up a lot of oil before they started to look conditioned, though..

I would do it to my 2 RG 6 strings, but I could never forgive myself if I screwed up the sharktooth inlays. :p

thats why i won't do it to my Rhoads V, abalone shark tooth inlays on a neck thru neck... but i have done it to my neck thru RG, which turned out very killer, but its one of my full scalloped necks, its not very good for riffs, only leads

i think it looks cool... i don't know how long i'm gonna leave it this way... when i do repaint it it will be a black and red crackle... buddy of mine sent me all the info on the method, and i believe it is very doable... and if it works out for me, i'll send in the pics and instructions to projectguitar.com and hopefully they will put up a howto...

A friend of mine have 2 Schecters custom shop made (Avenger and sunset) and both are scalloped.

Are pretty comfortable but you have to practice some because if you touch very hard the chords will sound like shit (no tuned).

I'm into it. No 7s so far, because I can't chance my main axe. But I just did my Jackson. Didn't lose the inlays, but I didn't really go super deep.

Yeah, I love them. I have a strat, too. To me, scallops play better.

Are all of your necks scalloped?

I really really really want to scallope at least one of my guitars.

Did you mean hinder? All I know is that it improves tapping:agreed: its way easier to tap with scallops then without IMO/experience.
When I used to own my 6s I scalloped them all, just love that feeling, for riffs ya cant press too hard:noplease: But Im a lead oriented guy so riffs on a scalloped guitar was never a problem for me:D

Yes, that is what I meant, and thanks for the response.

I could only picture myself pressing down to hard when tapping on a scalloped fretboard.
