Hey guys if you love Metallica's black album guitar tones, I got it.
I remember some time ago I watched a video with producer saying they spent a hundred hours equalizing all guitars.
Well, I just miked a mesa dc-5 combo with a sm-57, double tracked and panned hard stereo, compressed because of palm muttings and a little bit of eq to match the album mix.
You can find this amp on ebay very cheap for a mesa, it's the father of mark series, if I can remember I already watched Hammett saying he used to use it.
Any questions about how to record it just pm me :agreed:

"a little bit of eq to match the album mix"... well of course you were able to get that sound more easily than them. They didn't have a copy of Sad But True to reference with.

They also had at least five tracks of guitar on that song; not sure if they were all the same tone or not.

    this.
plus, at 99% the sound of the guitar mixed with instruments is different than the guitar alone

    anyway, is good!

errr..not quite true. caliber series as well as dual calibers were cheaper equivalent to mark series, so the iconic sound was more affordable. if we want to take it to more recent days, calibers were F-series/Express series of the more recent line up.

basically they were same amps as marks without all those pull/shift bells and whistles.

btw cool sound, not bad at all!

Sounds good, mate! The palm mute could have more meet tho. :yesway:

Here is my try on that, but i guess the axe is way too easy and not comparable to the effort you had to do
