Room Treatment...Kinda

Where should I hang blankets/towels/etc. to help deaden room reverberations and such? The floor is carpeted but all the walls are bare wood except around the furnace which is brick. Here is a "picture" of what the band room looks like.

I want to say the best places would be directly behind and directly across from all sources of sound. So, behind the amps, and directly across from them (They're pointed straight at walls so it'll work well) and then in the corners.

Putting some plastic or something over the vocalist's large head may deaden some unwanted noise.

He's actually good about unneccesary "noise". I need to hire someone to slap the drummer inbetween songs.
