Horrible news, he was only 47.

One of the most spectacular voices in the history of metal and an absolutely brilliant songwriter and composer.

Those early Angra albums had a huge effect on me, they took power metal into more sophisticated and progressive territories and completely shook up the scene.

    What a terrible loss.

Well this sucks. :( Especially since Angra at the moment seemed to try to be at least on talking terms with ex-members; or at the very least with Luis Mariutti. I recall Rafael Bittencourt saying he'd wish to have everyone on stage at least once at some point, but my memory is failing me.

RIP, I listened to a lot of Angra during the 90s.

Very sad news. I sat next to him on a plane when I went to Wacken in 2008. He was singing for Avantasia at the time. He was super friendly and chatted my friends and I up. It took me a few minutes to realize who he was and he was shocked when I dropped his name. We talked about our experiences in music school and non-musical hobbies and he gave us some promo copies of his solo album. It was a surreal start to a trip that had a massive impact on my life and I'm very grateful for the opportunity. RIP

This song introduced me to Angra. It's still one of my favourite metal songs. His voice near the end of the song still amazes me.

Here's Kiko Loureiro reflecting, a week after André Matos' death, on why they haven't talked to each other ever since they parted ways in 1999. The question seems to have been on his mind as more and more people he talked to and comments he read online kept asking this question. English subtitles available.

The song Kiko thinks André would've been the most proud of, out of the songs he knows from André? Which one would display André Matos at his best? The song Holy Land, from the eponym album. André wrote and arranged all the parts on the song on top of delivering an excellent performance.
