    Expect telecaster content

Also here's his new music video involving gratuitous use of novelty onesies

    My kids love this video.

Have you watched Devil’s Hand yet? The “fantasy” solo at the end is pure ridiculousness. I play mostly without a pick these days and even though I play a lot of fusion/shred type stuff I can’t keep up for more than like 20 seconds lol.

Also, I always have Mr Big in rotation on YT and I went down the rabbit hole watching Mr Big + RK videos the other day. Was surprised just how many there were. Even though Eric has perfect pitch and is an amazing singer, and Billy Sheehan is an awesome backing vocalist, I kept waiting for RK to take over lol... that’s when I came across this:

(thanks for being the other guy that loves RK )

I was a big RK fan in the late-90's-2000's, and I just haven't been up to date with what he's been up to for the past 10 years or so.

As much as I like tele's, in general, I think the Ibanez RG got my attention the most.

Yeah I have that solo at the end of the devils hand is unbelievable!

Haha I am definitely "that other guy" when it comes to a bit of The Kotzen. Fair play to you for shredding without a pick, I struggle with one! I've done that with his videos too in youtube just watched one after the other after the other. Currently I'm relearning some stuff off his original rock chops instructional video. The one with his awesome Ibanez Horror guitar. The stuff he could play at 19 yrs old....

I do love the music he did with Mr Big. Very different to the music they did with Paul Gilbert. Personally I am a bigger fan if Richie's than i am of Paul's. Sacrilege I know to some but Richie has it all, the chops to burn anyone but the song writing skills the voice everything. Along with EVH, Nuno and Lynch his is one of my favourite guitarists and a huge influence.

Couple of other videos Young Guitar have posted of Richie too, studio tour Devils Hand improv.

^ When someone asks me how thick the neck is on an RK tele. It's that thick.

Richie Kotzen is an absolute monster of a player. When I listen to this fusion album that he did solo or the fusion albums he did with Greg Howe I can't help but feel he has squandered his talent somewhat with his focus on bland rock. I mean, you have to play what makes you happy and pays the bills, but he was a a legit top-tier fusion guitarist.

When I listen to the Winery Dogs for example, it sounds like he isn't even using 10% of his abilities. I get that maybe that's not the point, but I still wonder at the incredible music we haven't heard.

Hey, some guys are really into the bland rock stuff and that's totally ok too.

And some of us are sophisticated enough to listen to and appreciate both

While I love the Winery Dogs I do agree with you though, I really want to see Kotzen pick up a pick and do something instrumentally sophisticated sometimes.

I'll post more details when it arrives in 17-30 days haha.

No pick, but that last 2.5 minutes though.

Kotzen comes from the Nuno, Paul Gilbert mindset where they can shred their asses off but raised in the Beatles school of songwriting being paramount. So it makes sense for them to be playing simple pop structures. Kotzen just happens to be damn good at that too.

The first Winery Dogs album was much better than the second as it turns out due to Kotzen doing the lion's share of the writing.

I do agree that he's a great fusion guitarist as well, the stuff he did with Stanley Clarke were awesome. I'd be nice for him to throw some out here or there.

If anything, I'm shocked I first heard about him for being CC Deville's replacement in Poison. Glad that he completely transcended that band.

Yeah I love pretty much all of Kotzen's stuff... his 50 for 50 that he recently put out is fantastic.

I was listening to him in the Shrapnel days so the whole Poison thing just seemed like an odd turn to me  I actually contacted him about taking lessons but unfortunately he was in the process of moving to LA when I got a hold of him. He had been living outside of Philly and I was about an hour away at the time.

I’ve probably watched these a thousand times...

I think a lot of it comes from the fact that he was a piano player and singer first who then learned to play guitar. So he thinks about composition and melody before pyrotechnics.

His voice is like a combination of Fergie and Jesus.

    Thanks for sharing

I was on the hunt for his horror comic strip graphic RG5(50?) and I got as far as king of Prussia, Pennsylvania

Richie sold it years ago and it hadn’t resurfaced in 15 years

He’s amazing. I think his best work was earlier, and then he had the “shredder mid life crisis” and did that blues album with the white cover. He’s so colorful and playful, he reminds of like if Mozart was a shredder.

    YES.

The solo one in particular is one of my favorite youtube videos of all time. Winery Dogs is a little hit and miss for me but still really great overall. I haven't listened to 50/50 yet, need to get on that.
