I'm refinishing this pitted aged looking tremolo, any ideas on what's the best way to strip off the finish? I'm most likely getting it powder coated black along with the tuner pegs for the headstock.

I imagine if you take it to a powder coater, they will have an acid bath that will remove the coating and prepare the finish for paint. Should look great! One of the guys on Jemsite did this with his and it turned out beautful!

Good luck! Looking forward to seeing the finished piece!

Yeah I was planning on getting it powder coated black, I still haven't decided what I want to do with the neck and body, I'm probably just going to fill in the tone knob hole on the body then get the whole guitar sprayed gloss black.

Let me give you a tip on powder coating one of these. Either go to somebody who knows guitars, or be very specific with them. I had a guy in town powder coat my FRS pink, and the amount of coating is super inconsistent; which may be a sign of his skill, I really don't know.

I've had to spend extensive time with it sanding it down in areas just to even reassemble the trem. It was a mess.

That trem looks like it needs a good cleaning... I wouldn't mess with it any other way.
Also I don't believe that the powder coating will be more dureable than the standard finish...

maybe try having it anodized..much much thinner than powder coating.
