I need my palm muted chords to keep my noise gate open longer and ring out. My rig has just the right amount of gain, ultra tight low end, nice mids/highs but it seems to need signal sustain.

Visual Sound Comp 66 is fantastic. All the Visual Sound products are top notch and cheap as well.

Unless you like a whole lot of added noise please avoid the BOSS CS-3. Thank you.

The DynaComp is always a good one. Alternatively... you could make one. They're quite easy and cheap.

The dyna comp looks good. Will it work for extremely tight technical metal in Drop A?

depends what you mean by affordable . I have an empress comp and its the best comp out there IMHO . its not cheap but I'd call it affordable. with comps cheap = noisey for the ones I've tried

I'm not sure a comp is gonna do what you want in your OP . cant you just ease up on the gate settings a little ?

Most compressors will work just fine for what you want, it's just a matter of setting everything up right between your compressor and your gate. :)
