I have always wanted a LP just never wanted to shell out the kind of cash to get a nice one. So why not do a kit build?

    Enter Fast Guitars.

Kevin at Fast Guitars builds very high quality kits for a very reasonable price. You can check out his website here Home page

I was ecstatic when I was given the chance to review a Standard Kit Carved Top SC Carved Top SC - Standard Guitar Kits - Guitar Parts from Fast Guitars.

Here are some shots as it was being built at the Fast shop.

I specifically asked Kevin to find a top with a flaw or two in it. You guys who know me know I like tops with character. Kevin found a great top with some exciting color and a little bit of character for me.

I am not sure what else to say other than... yes it is awesome.

Ping me if you need to know more. Kevin is pretty good to work with and is very open to OEM work.

Oh... about the pickups. I think I am going to go without pickup rings on this one. The routes are really clean and pretty tight so I am going to come up with a mounting system like I used on the Zero.

The tenon is a bit different than a traditional LP tenon. Kevin explained that his update to the traditional tennon allows it to be fully CNC machined resulting in a more repeatably accurate connection than a joint that is cnc-cut then chisled/filed/sanded to fit.

When I get some free time and extra $$ I may seriously think about picking up a LP from these guys. That looks awesome!

I helped a friend develop a tenon that is similar to that for the same reasons although we routed it all by hand with templates, too cool!
