I was going to put new strings on the old wreck, when a thought suddenly stroke my mind: "This could be something more!"
Enjoy this (tiny) worklog, where I'm trying to bring new life into an old mid-range Ibby :yesway:

There she is! Right in the middle.

I took her apart faster than the speed of light.

The first few inches with P80 sandpaper.

    Awrite, we're getting somewhere!

Most of the original painting is gone. There are still tiny bits left in the wooden veins.

    First run with P220 sandpaper.

Second & last run with P220 sandpaper. Let's get this baby oiled up! :yesway:

First layer of oil. Shiny! Looks much better IRL :fawk:

While I was waiting for the first layer of oil to dry, I took some P220 sandpaper and brushed the pick-up frames.

The second layer of oil has been applied and I will let it dry overnight.
I've ordered a set of DiMarzio Evolution bridge/neck pick-ups from Thomann.de. Those should arrive early next week.

Tomorrow I will be cleaning the hardware and use WD-40 on sensitive parts.

More pics will be up tomorrow!

    Cheers! :hbang:

Nice work. Looking forward to seeing your plans for the ZR.

Why isn't this in the luthiery/modding section, BTW?

Dude this is seriously nice :) don't want to sound like a prick, but I'd put some maple pickup rings in that, they would look beastly in this!

One thing I've never managed to understand, is why Ibanez S-series guitars are ever even produced in other finishes than natural. That design just looks so goddamn good with just an oil finish.

Bridge cleaned, oil dried and guitar assembled.
Now I'll be waiting for the DiMazio Evolution pickups to arrive!

Really awesome! Looks epic so far :)

One of these has been hanging in a local store here, might just pick it up and steal your idea. :agreed:

I saw some great wooden knobs on ebay the other day that would look sick on this!

    Great job :hbang:

Good news! Thomann has sent the pickups that I ordered like... 2 weeks ago.

Anyways, I'm waiting for them and I'll keep you updated :D
