I didn't watch Glenn's video but pickups obviously do matter. They do change response and tone. Signal strength or pickup height will change dynamics, playability, breakup etc on the amp. The pull of the magnet and the doppler effect proove it changes the tone. It actually changes the phase of relationships of the frequencies between strings etc. Pickups won't change the timbre of the insturment but in effect/practice and in our heads they kinda do, imo, - Even pickup materials matter. Everyone who's messed with pikcups knows that alnico 5's sound different thatn ceramic etc. They just do. - Maybe Glenn was tryig to just say focus more on playing and foqrget pickups for awhile. I dunno, but Im not watchign the video yet.

Almost everything makes a difference in the sound IMO. But for me the most important thing in a guitar is that it stays in tune and doesn't have too many neck problems. (And has no ugly resonances). Everything else there's so many ways you can shape your signal before and after the amp with pedals or DAW stuff... I wouldn't buy very expensive pickups for example, for me it's not worth it. I'm happy with my JBs and EMGs and Blackouts.

Glenn’s opinion was that changing guitar pickups won’t matter as much as changing something else like your speakers.

As in, a change in your speakers from V30s to greenbacks will make a bigger change in tone than swapping pickups.

Are we still here after 20 pages? A speaker change will affect the tone of you amp and cab. A pickup change will affect the the feel, frequency response, dynamics, breakup, compression and output. Those changes will apply to any amp or modeller you plug into. Chances are you can't change speakers on amps you plug into at some random venue when playing live .

Different stuff, but hey, who cares when making clickbaity videos? Now back to bananas and pizza...

He mixed one track off of a Queensryche album no one cared about, and, before that, he recorded that goth/doom metal band that some people (not most) might know. Both were over a decade ago.

Didn't he also do a little mixing work on an Adele track?

Yeah not an album, IIRC, a single track?

EDIT: A google search comes up null, so I probably gave Fricker more credit than he deserved there.

Two questions.

If I play while wearing a banana hammock, is my tone better?

If you swap pickups and no one gives a fuck about your music anyways does it still make a difference

Maybe you're thinking of Mark Ronson or Rick Rubin?

He remixed one track off an album no-one cared about by the fake Queenryche that no-one cares about. ;)
