on paper this amp would appear to be loaded. it's been out for a while now, what is the verdict? i'm mainly interested in hearing about the big boy, lunch box amps are not my thing.

did you use the pedal power on the back? did it at all effect the sound having pedals that close to the amp?

    how is the gate?

most importantly how are the high gain sounds?

    thanks!!!!

Excellent amp once you know how to dial it in.

The high gain sounds are basically like a 5151 except it can be a bit brighter and has a touch less low end *at identical low/resonance settings* (it has plenty of low end overall and the brightness can be dialed back).

The power jacks work well depending on the pedal. Some pedals worked fine for me. Others I could hear a high pitched whine in the background. It could’ve just been my amp and when I sent it to John Fields (designer of the amp at Peavey) for a clean channel mod he couldn’t reproduce the issue.

The gate works well. It’s an input gate so it’s good for staccato chugs and quieting down pickup noise, but doesn’t do anything about noise/hiss generated in the preamp—some people still like to add another gate in the loop.

It’s a beast of an amp but again you kinda need to know how to dial it in. The keys there are:
    1. Post gains about 3:00 to tame fizz
    2. Master boost on (can only be turned on via the footswitch (or MIDI)

Deadpool covered it lol. I love mine and you’d have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

Lots of useful features and it sounds badass. I noticed my strymon pedals made some noise being powered off the amp. Meris , chase bliss and source audio were quiet (Reverbs/Delays). Also the matching cab is 10/10.

No idea what the big one sounds like, but the MH with the boost and gate engaged is the tightest amp I've ever heard in my life and I've owned a shit ton of amps

The Strymons are the ones I had problems with as well. Both the BigSky and Timeline. I thought was a little odd since I think Misha liked to run those in it’s loop as well. The El Cap worked fine as did the BlueSky. Boss pedals also worked fine.

A guitarist without a band, still pratices for when the day comes.

Same experience with bigsky. This droning noise. El Cap no issues. Wasn’t a deal breaker. Thankfully the UA Golden is now king of the reverb throne for me. Telling myself I don’t need a CXM 1978 lol.
