Just wondering if anyone knows what the current overlooked / unfashionable guitars are?
I've noticed used Prestiges increase in price in the past couple of years, although bargains can still be had. But if you go back 10 years there were Japanese Jacksons flying round for peanuts. And a few years before that it was the Japanese Charvels etc.
Are there any guitars currently on the used market that have that unique combination of high quality but low desirability? Or has the increase in popularity of metal/rock, and general internet useage of the general public ruined all that?
Bonus points if the guitars are cheap in Europe :D
Basically I want a good guitar for not a lot of cash :D

Framus. Seriously. The Diablo or Panthera Version. You can get Made in Germany guitars for under 1k€
They just might look a little boring.
You can also get Japan pre lawsuit Les Pauls from various companies (Burny for example is still pretty cheap).
Ibanez USA Custom guitars are often pretty rare BUT they go for around 1-1,5k€.
Parker guitars are rare too but go for around 1k

I'd never even considered Parkers or LACS Ibanez's to be cheap enough to consider.
Will look into those Framus guitars too!

    I have more!
Edwards, Grassroots, Navigator -> ESP guitars made in Japan
ESP Custom, some of them were Made in Germany in the 80s/90s and they are pretty cheap, but look boring often times

German guitars look pretty boring most of the time, now that I think of it...

EDIT: Some Jaden Rose guitars are bizarrely cheap sometimes too
    EDIT2: Fujigen/FGN

You can find a lot of them on Japanese used guitar sites, sometimes for really good prices.

Prices have constantly gone up and not the deals they used to be, but American made peavey stuff. I bought a USA peavey telecaster that was sitting on craiglist for almost a month for $300 and bough countless other Peavey stuff over the years for cheap. I think they are even better value for their basses.

The list winnows down even further if you separate out the sixxers, and only look for the 7s and 8s. Super hard to find good deals there, as there aren’t nearly as many options.

I think the Ibanez 7321 and 1527 are still pretty good deals. You can also occasionally snack a good deal on a RGD 2127z because the matte finish gets shiny and/or flakes off.
8s however... you can get an Agile sometimes for cheap. Maybe Cort?

Pretty much everything is expensive right now, so it's hard to say what's around the corner.

That said, probably the biggest hidden gems in the used market are:

    - USA Peavey guitars from the 90's and early 00's. You can still find Strats and Teles that are made in the USA and dirt cheap. The hardware can be junky, but the bones are good.

    - Fernandes: pretty much anything from the early and mid 00's. Typically Japanese built. Hardware is usually high quality Gotoh and Takeuchi, sometimes Schaller.

    - Aria/Aria Pro II: A lot out there is junky, but when you find a good MIJ piece they're solid. They're becoming somewhat "collectible" in some circles, but you can still grab the cheap...for now.

    - Washburn: Tons of MIA and good MIK stuff. Sells for way less than the quality and features you get.

I spend all day refreshing Music Go Round, and that's really the best way to find deals on some cool, older MIA and MIJ stuff. Doesn't help much if you're in Europe though, unfortunately.

For the Europeans: Lâg guitars. Most of their 90's stuff kicks ass, and even the later 00's guitars are great.
You can get an Arkane 500 ( with real SDs and an OFR) for 300€, which is cheaper than the floyd alone.

Even custom shop series / made in France guitars can be found for less than 1k, usually in the 600ish range with a bit of luck and searching.

Also they had a warrior-like guitars that look like it's melting, and that is super cool.

I've always wondered what the quality of those was like, and decided they must be junk due to the low prices! Now I know I'll be keeping an eye out!
I just miss the days of £300 Japanese Soloists :D

There is a lot of variation, and different tiers that are not so easy to distinguish, but usually it's all good stuff. Keep in mind that some are almost 30 years old now, they may need tlc and maybe some replacement parts.

For the 2000's stuff, it goes as follow:

200 series are good, I'd rate them similar to a Ltd 400 of the same area.

500 series are like MIJ jacksons.

1000 and above could go against a ESP imho.

100 or less is usually decent and enjoyable but not amazing. Aim for 200 and above.

That goes for everything in here.

While many of these were great when built, time and care will make a huge impact on what you get today.

You'll always have to evaluate this stuff on a per-piece basis and use your best judgment when assessing risk.

Often, that "great deal" on an old Jackson or ESP or Ibanez is because the guitar is only worth that thanks to shot frets or hardware or a squirrely neck.

They aren't made by Mayones anymore. They are now made in Czech Republic by the same crowd who make the spector euroline basses.

Still good value and quality though.

Edit - I forgot to mention, that the "Forum Customs" are in fact still made by Mayones.
