That could happen! Might be up your way in the next few years.
So, most people complain luthiers are hard to get hold of. Well, in 42 minutes we are going to have a spare Hypemachine because I'm sick of chasing a client.
Three other owners have contacted him. We've asked two of his work mates to tell him to get in touch. And we've called his work seven times and they have passed on numerous messages.
His phone number goes to someone else. I've spoken with a gig promoter that knows him. I've chased this guy since well before Xmas. Emails. Facebook. Friends. Clients. Work. I'm done!
I had a guy disappear on me last year AFTER I had already finished his custom inlay. Same thing, I tried every form of communication I could think of.
super annoying. Nothing makes a guitar harder to sell than having someone else's tattoo on it.
I don't understand why anybody would order a custom guitar, and then disappear. If you lose your job or something and are short on cash, probably better to tell the guy working hard to bring your dream your life about it as soon as possible. Probably willing to work something out...
That is above and beyond any resonable effort to contact someone. Wow. That actually pisses me off, considering missing this run and having the VIP lists set as is. It'll benefit someone else, but it sh!ts on the planning factor for a lot of people, considering the level of investment and importance these builds are to folks that care. Plus, it's ridiculously disrespectful to the luthier. Life happens, but damn. No bueno.
How much was the deposit though? If you're 1.5k in on a 4k guitar, sounds like the builder winds up better off for it anyway.
When will the spare hype be available for purchase?
Here's some snaps of the lefty in question.
I'm pretty easy going when it comes to money. Pat can verify that (refunded extra payments made so he can do emergency house repairs). Jeff can verify (life got in the way). Simon can verify (build put on hold for eight years). Brandon, Daniel, etc etc etc etc
It's not the first time someone has disappeared either. Approximately 12 or so have vanished off the face of the earth (one guy passed away and we are refunding to his family). Two guys paid in full, although I suspect one was purchasing on behalf of a luthier to copy. One guy left two 60's gibsons at the shop 4-5 years ago.
But I know this guy has a steady job. I know his workplace and numerous employees have passed on my messages. And to me, that's disrespectful enough that I have zero desire to put any effort into his build.
Weird, I guess he isn't bothered about losing his deposit money.
Sucks that its a lefty, I imagine it will be more difficult to sell than a righty. Though as a lefty, it does kind of pain me to say that.
Verified... and in Texas during the summer - no A/C = super emergency!
I think the wood specs on the now spare one are:
Tassie Blackwood body, Myrtle top, Tassie Blackwood neck with ebony veneers and a quilt <?> maple fretboard? With some blue binding on body and headstock...
Stuff happens. It irritates me to no end when people won't communicate.
Just a quick update on my build
I think that old bench frame is still in the same spot from when I was last there using it to lean a piece of reflective insulation on.
Probably. The wind wont move it around like the rest of the .... in the backyard
Typical Perth back yard, lol!
Not sure if Perry is making me a guitar, or a weapon to fend off the zombie apocalypse....you decide
well damn... something that competes with my rusty.
expect a lot of NGDs soon.
Some more updates -
