Hi guys, after watching Ola's Sunday with Ola I decided to give his riff challenge a try, here is what I ended up with:

Anyone else doing these? Show your videos!

The challenge is that he does a little tune in the start of every video and provides the drums so that others can try and write riffs over it and then the week after he presents which one he thinks did the best. I don't think there is any reward or anything, other than the honor and promotion I guess

Are you a fan of Emperor, perchance?

    Love this. Really well done.

Here's my take on last week's challenge:

Hey man your video shows as private.

Loving the riffs so far and it's always interesting to see the different take people will have on the drum track provided.

Yeah I uploaded it directly from iMovie and set it to private so I could edit the description etc before setting it to public, and then the setting didn't stick for whatever reason... Now it should work.

Anyway, it's not the kind of stuff I generally write or play, but I had fun getting out of my comfort zone a bit. I also gave Fluff's VST a try here, it's very good!

Sorry for highjacking this thread a bit, but here's my latest entry into this thing:

Not exactly the most technical thing ever, but pretty far from the hair metal thing Ola played anyway

I just posted my latest one, and I think it turned out pretty good:

Nice one, and again, very Emperor influenced :) Which is of course always a good thing.

Thanks, and yeah, will certainly do, I've just been really busy the last couple of weeks. Maybe I'll do the next one again.

My current recording setup makes the whole thing very cumbersome - I record on my PC because it has the lowest latency, then mix on my old iMac because I like the workflow of Logic and use many of its' stock plugins, and finally do the video edit on a MacBook  Last time I did the editing also on the iMac, but won't do it again because the rendering took maybe 10x longer than on the MacBook and it only allowed 720p.
Anyway, the goal is that someday I'll just have a USB interface and then I'll be able to do everything on the MacBook. At this point I just wish I wouldn't have taken the Firewire route to begin with.

Decided to do this weeks challenge, here's how it turned out. Went for a kind of At the Gates'ish vibe this time. Kinda feel like it'd be better with a higher tempo though.

Well, I decided to give a try at the last one of the year... probably the drum-track that I liked the less throughout the year  bloody me...

At it again after not posting any videos for a while.
This one is actually a bit tricky to do since it both has bars of 7/8, 9/8, 3/4 and 4/4, atleast when counting in my mind. I think it turned out quite cool though.

Really cool man! You did a good job with that very difficult time signature... I refused to do this one because I didn't have enough time to "fight" agains the time signature. I needed something easier this weekend and did not get it so... next time maybe!

Thanks! Yeah my initial idea was also just to drop it, but after having it in repeat a bit I started to figure out the bars, but could have been easier I agree. Hopefully it will then actually get features next sunday, if not a lot of people did it

Same here, I just can't be bothered with complicated time signatures unless I write them myself  So maybe next time for me as well, I got a new interface so at least I don't have to record/mix/edit video on different machines anymore.

Well, this week's challenge definitely didn't have any tricky time signatures. I decided to do a melancholic version of the original song, I think it turned out pretty interesting.
