The guys were at the timber yard today and I managed to grab this quilt:
Here's mine. Not perfect, but it's mine
A real beauty! Love that one!
Any issues with it?
Well, the autumn 2019 estimate for my queue to end was delayed/off. It seems my batch (11/11/2016) is now slated to start early 2020. That would make it a 3.5 year wait, and likely 5 years overall before we get a fiddle in our hands. I think @dhgrind and a few others will be with me on this one.
With how his work is looking lately I’m about to demand my non refundable deposit back because I’m not going to pay for a sub par custom for a 3rd time.
do what? 3rd time?
Cancel and receive a refund due to poor handling of his business and not caring to wait another 1.5-4 years to receive a defective hackjob.
While I can sympathize with the apprehension after the latest black/green one was posted, obviously you can't make a blanket hackjob statement -- some are well-made. I can't make a broader hands-on statement than that, just that my second one is really solid and didn't leave anything to complain about.
So it would be difficult to make the case that your guitar is sub-par without first having it built, and consequently, to ask for a refund on the non-refundable refund without a concrete reason for it. I mean, I'm behind you if you receive it and it has problems and needs to go back, it doesn't make sense to pre-emptively claim that.
Five (5!) years is just such an absurd timeline.
This thread is five years old.
Who knows what you'll get in half a decade.
I'm not saying you'll get something good or bad, it's just there are so much variables with damn near 2000 days.
I think it was pretty clear going in that the non-refundable deposit that we knowingly made was non-refundable in any circumstances, what with them explaining multiple times that the non-refundable deposit being made was, under any circumstances, non-refundable.
But did they consider people might change their minds? Maybe in that case a refund would be warranted?
I don't think that's how this works.
I recall that they invited me to consider that possibility very carefully before giving them the non-refundable deposit.
5 years is just ridiculous. Now way I would wait this long for a guitar, I'd rather grab one used instead. Maybe he closes down in 4 years, you never know...
I had a 90 minute phone call with Dylan the other day and he has stressed that the issues on the Black/Green Cimmerian will never happen again and that everything coming out of the shop will be heavily scrutinised before being sent out. I'm pretty relaxed about the whole thing and I'm about to send full payment in advance for my next two builds which are just starting now. I have a good few Daemoness here and certainly have no complaints about them...every one I have is spot on.
I feel the same way. That's why my retirement fund is $0. Maybe I'm dead by then, but money now is money now.
This is nice and all that but was there also any hint of an explanation as to how it went out in that state in the first place? Like, there's dropping the ball and then there's knocking over the entire shelf of balls and just being "oh fuck this, the balls are everywhere".
