So, a tiny bit of context - I've been a Star Wars fan my whole life, and I always latched onto the lightsaber as my favorite little thing from the movies - there's just something about sci-fi gadgets I love, be it a lightsaber, a sonic screwdriver, or a tricorder - they're just so cool! So needless to say, as a kid, I always had a ton of lightsaber toys that light up, or collapsed down into the hilt and you could flick the blade out when you pulled a switch.

But then, recently, I discovered these - duel-ready, light up prop sabers that almost look real, with removeable blades. I had to have one.

So I ordered two! The first was a Saberforge Bane, but they take a while to make and send out their sabers, so I ordered this one last monday to tide me over - an Ultrasabers Dark Initiate V4 with a Guardian Blue blade. But enough talk, onto the pictures!

Cool tidbit - apparently these sort of lightsabers are what they used as live props while shooting Episode VII, instead of a resin hilt with a metal "blade" they CG'd over afterwards - these provided better tracking, and a more realistic ambient glow, and also didn't bent after hard hitting

Gahhhh I want one of these so badly since I found them a few weeks ago!

Not only am I still a giant latent Star Wars dork, but often for some extra conditioning and fun at fencing practice, we'll do some Kendo or German longsword (and might start a longsword class in the spring) - I seriously want a medium or heavy sparring blade to use a lightsaber for that

I find your lack of video disturbing. ;)

But seriously, could you put up a review and/or comparison once the SF comes in? Or even dueling videos?

Comparison, definitely! Dueling, maybe - I might do some dueling with this at the con I'm going to in january, but beyond that, I don't have any dueling partners.

Asher - if you get one of these, get the ultraedge heavy grade blade - looks and holds up better. And if you don't care about the hilt or color, you just want a cheap lightsaber, Ultrasabers does a grab bag option - you get a random hilt and random color, and it's the cheapest option they have

Ah, but I do, sadly, otherwise I might have one already

    Cheers!

Well, it's not that much more to go with a specific hilt and color - this was $101, shipped. If you want sound, you can get a good one for less than $250

Even though I'm not that big of a Star Wars fan (I like them but if I don't see the newer ones I don't mind) and physics says it's impossible to have a lightsabre, I still think this looks extra cool and wouldn't mind getting one. Congrats and I'd be interested to see the new one you ordered.

Ultrasabers.com! Saberforge also does cool ones, tho they take longer to ship out - but their etsy ships a little faster, and they have a few designs exclusive to that, like Revan's and Asokha's lightsabers

Just to be sure this 'blade' isn't retracting into the hilt is it? You're screwing it in, right?

The blade is set an inch or more into the hilt and then held in with a retaining screw.

Slight update - finally got to bust this out at a con over the weekend, did some light dueling with it at the raves - held up pretty well! Didn't duel like one of the hardasses that leave welts and scars on each other, not my idea of a good time. Check 2:00 and 3:15

Oh yeah, I don't know .... about swordfighting hahaha - Matter of fact, I plan on picking up a double bladed saber to use more like a bo staff, as I've got a lot more experience with those than any sword weaponry
